Windows 10: Windows News App just did clean inall why do I get popups

When trying to read news stories using the Windows New app, I keep keeping a pop up https://us-weeklymag.com/btc/report10.php, how do I stop these annoying web page pop ups, as it did not happen before dong a clean install, and only happens after installing windows news app, as it pops up so many times when using the news app. Is there a way to stop this

could someone please list the steps they follow to install windows with a dual core processor and windows xp service pack to. I'm reletively new to amd dual core and i feel i'm missing a step. All help will be appreciated. thanx

The tutorials provided are just a list of troubleshooting steps. Use only the steps which apply to you.

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.

I have exactly the same issue with my Microsoft News app on Windows 10.

I seemed to have fixed the issue by going to "Apps & features", selecting "Microsoft News", selecting "Advanced options", then "Reset"

However after some time (and possibly a restart) the issue has returned.

I have done a "full scan" (using Windows 10 Virus & threat protection) with 0 Threats found. The fact that the Microsoft News app can become "infected" in some way, I find quite surprising. However, this seems to be the case!

To iterate: selecting any news article in Microsoft News causes the default browser to open to "https://us-weeklymag.com/btc/report10.php"

If it is of any bearing, I am situated in Australia.

Like you, I'm in Australia using a Windows 10 PC with the same problem.
It appears to be intermittent, usually occurring on a Monday but gone on Tuesday.
Microsoft don't appear to have any idea about this problem but it's certainly very annoying as the News App is basically hijacking your browser.
I'm going to try and block the URL https://us-weeklymag.com (its IP address is 18.208.116.98) using a free program called "urlblocker" (download it from https://www.wintools.info/index.php/url-blocker) and see what happens.

Used the URLBlocker with the us-weeklymag URL and had no hijacking of my browser for a week. Removed the block today (Monday) and so far the News App doesn't open my browser. I don't know if MS has fixed the problem (probably never will) or if it's coincidence.
I'll leave the blocked URL out for now and if it happens again I'll put the block back in immediately to see if it does block the URL or not.
Whatever, it's damned frustrating for sure.
Once again, if there is any more information, I'll update it here.

So I too haven't had a spawned popup for the last 5 or so days.

Interestingly, if you try to visit that ad page now (https://us-weeklymag.com/btc/report10.php), it has been removed and results only in a "404 Not Found"

I did some (minimal) research into the popup ad page that we were getting. Originally I thought it was an advert for Chanel 10 and The Shark Tank, however, it was actually for automated bitcoin "investment' software, which the ad claimed was featured on 10's The Shark Tank and highly recommended by The Shark Tank cast. None of this (unsurprisingly) is true. Chanel 10 and The Shark Tank are now trying to sue the people responsible and (and this is the interesting bit) remove ALL false claims to the contrary.

Although I still half suspect that our Microsoft News apps have been "infected" in some way, I am also considering the possibility that Microsoft might have actually "sold" the popup ad functionality (something they have previous form for) for these ads . . which have now stopped in lieu of litigation by 10.

This is all speculation by me. I wish I had asked other Australian Windows 10 users to launch their News app to see if the popup ad was ubiquitous!

On the up side, I took your advice Howard and installed URL Blocker which I am enjoying playing with, so thanks for that!
