  1. WIndows 10 - Disc Partitioning QUeries

I am seeking information about the disc partitioning that is present on my PC hard drive.

If I run the Command Prompt "Diskpart" command, the following is shown

    DISKPART> list partition

    Partition ### Type Size Offset
    ------------- ---------------- ------- -------
    Partition 1 System 500 MB 1024 KB
    Partition 2 Primary 40 MB 501 MB
    Partition 3 Reserved 128 MB 541 MB
    Partition 4 Recovery 750 MB 669 MB
    Partition 5 Primary 917 GB 1419 MB
    Partition 6 Recovery 987 MB 919 GB
    Partition 7 Recovery 350 MB 920 GB
    Partition 8 Recovery 10 GB 920 GB

When I run the Disk Management option from the Start Menu, I am presented with the following

    WIndows 10 - Disc Partitioning QUeries e7176d21-a652-44d0-8ed5-fac758cfa744?upload=true.png

As you can see, there are 8 Partitions in the first, but only 7 in the second (Elements (DWIndows 10 - Disc Partitioning QUeries :) is an external USB connected drive).

Questions...….The extra partition is Partition 3 Reserved of 128MB … what is it, is it needed, can it be added to another partition and used??

What are Partitions 4,6,7,8 Recovery used for??? I back-up to drive D: using File History and Backup and Restore Windows 7 from the Control Panel.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    :)

    W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

WIndows 10 - Disc Partitioning QUeries

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
