  1. Wifi Password is always encrypted?

    Hello,

I am trying to recover my Wifi Password that's saved on my Windows 10 computer. I see every single tutorial in the universe tells me to open Wireless Properties. However, when I open the security options and select "show characters" the password suddenly changes to this long string of random numbers. I know for a fact that isn't my password, in fact I have a general idea what my password is but I just don't quite remember every special character. Because "encryption type" is set to WEP with key set to 1, does that mean the password is being encrypted? Why the hell would I ever want my password encrypted on my own damn computer? More importantly, how do I decrypt it? When I change the "encryption type" from WEP to "none" then the password text field completely disappears.

I also opened command prompt and typed in "netsh wlan show profile name='SSID' key=clear" (changing SSID to my actual Wifi). But, when I did that the response was still the same series of random numbers.

Now, I can understand if the steps necessary to get the wifi password is more complicated than it was before. Sure, I don't mind at all. I mind when there is such a plethora of misinformation to tell me to do XYZ to get something so simple and it doesn't actually work. At all.

    Thanks,

    Nathan

    :)

  2. Can't encrypt or password protect folders?

    Hi,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community. I understand the inconvenience you faced.
I will certainly help you with this.

The information which you have provided is not enough for us to determine the issue. Please provide us more information.

    • Are you logging-in using Administrator User account?
    • Is this issue specific to any particular folder or persist in all the folders?

Encrypting File System (EFS) is a feature of Windows that you can use to store information on your hard disk in an encrypted format. Encryption is the strongest protection that Windows provides to help you keep your information secure. I suggest you to try
log-in through other Administrator account and perform the below given steps to encrypt the folder and check if it works:

    How to encrypt a file

    • Right-click (or tap and hold) a file or folder and select Properties.
    • Select the Advanced... button and select the Encrypt contents to secure data check box.
    • Select OK to close the Advanced Attributes window, select
      Apply, and then select OK.

Please post back with the results and the information asked, we will be glad to assist you further.

    Thank you.

Kick or Ban who is connected with my internet ?

You would have to do that on your Router's setup webpage. 1st step is to turn on WiFi encryption and password. 2nd step, if you feel you need to, is set up an access list of the physical MAC addresses for the network adapters of the computers you want to allow to connect. Any other network adapter not on that MAC filter list won't be able to connect. (but MAC addresses can be easily spoofed, if the third person knows which MAC addresses are allowed).
