Windows 10: English (United Kingdom) local experience pack | How to remove and have preference respected.

It seems English (United Kingdom) local experience pack is installed every time I get an update. I really do NOT want to use it since I live in Australia - my default language and experience pack is English (Australia) with a US international keyboard layout. (...and no, English (Australia) is not the same as English (United Kingdom). )


I have discovered that I can remove it from my language toggle where it first appears by installing (funny how one still needs to do that even though it appears there already) and then removing it. However, like clockwork, as the update finishes, there it is in its full glory again. In addition, it also appears in my Installed apps library (despite being removed) while English (Australia) is nowhere to be found in that list. (This is causing me to think that English (UK) is considered something like a 'master' set, while all the other ones, except US, of course, are just variations upon the theme and not warranting the effort of being done properly. Is that the case?)


My question: Is there any way to flag my preference for English (Australia) in order to keep English (UK) from being forced upon me all the time?

Can't remove English (United Kingdom) from my preferences

If you add a secondary language to Windows 10 version 1803 that shares the same base language as the Windows display language, neither language can be removed.

For example: If English (United Kingdom) is the current Windows display language, and you then add English (India) to the Preferred languages list, afterwards neither English (United Kingdom) nor English (India) can be removed from the Preferred languages list.

Note: The most notable effect of having multiple related languages in the Preferred languages list is additional entries in the text input selector. You can remove unwanted language list entries using these steps:

1. From the Start menu, search for powershell.

2. Right-click Windows Powershell in the search results and choose Run as administrator.

3. Type or copy/paste the following command at the command prompt, and then press Enter.

Get-WinUserLanguageList

After typing this command, make note of the “LanguageTag” listed for the language you wish to remove, as you will need it in the next step.

4. Type or copy/paste each of the following commands at the command prompt, and then press Enter. In the following commands, instead of typing <languagecode>, replace it with the language tag you wish to remove, such as en-in for English (India).

$LangList = Get-WinUserLanguageList

$MarkedLang = $LangList | where LanguageTag -eq "<languagecode>"

$LangList.Remove($MarkedLang)

Set-WinUserLanguageList $LangList -Force

 

English (United Kingdom) Local Experience Pack - need to uninstall it please

For some reason my computer has this experience pack installed and I want to get rid of it but the "uninstall" button is greyed out. How can I make it clickable? The other thing, which I am guessing is probably related to this, is when I go to settings -
languages - preferred languages, it has English (United Kingdom) there as the second option. Once again, if you highlight it, the "remove" button is greyed out. I want to remove these two (or perhaps the same one) United Kingdom thing from my computer altogether.

I spent with on the phone with a Microsoft technician about an unrelated matter and asked this question and after investigating with the supervisor even she could not offer a solution to remove this. Please help, many thanks.
