  1. Unable to logon to laptop after Microsoft account change

    Here's the history:

    1. Logged onto laptop using Microsoft account where email address was *** Email address is removed for privacy ***
    2. Laptop given to another user a long time ago
    3. That email address is also used to logon to an Office 365 system and generates those "Choose work or personal" prompts
    4. To overcome this, Microsoft recommends renaming the Microsoft account so that's what I did - renamed it to *** Email address is removed for privacy ***
    5. A lot of time passes...
    6. Try to logon to same laptop but can't

It says the password is incorrect which isn't the case. I know exactly what the Microsoft account password is.

The problem I suspect is that it's trying to use *** Email address is removed for privacy *** to authenticate but that was changed months, if not years ago.

I would of course try changing the Microsoft account to use the old name except a) you're blocked from having a Microsoft account with same name as Office 365 these days and b) it would cock-up all the other laptops afterwards where I've used the renamed email. So that's a non-starter.

So what's the fix here? I can't believe that Windows 10 can't handle a change of email address for Microsoft account?

    :)

Windows 10 logon email changed - password now fails - unable to logon

Daughter's new laptop. She set it up with her @gmail.com account for logon. All was fine for a few days and then the logon screen changed from showing her @gmail.com account under the user name to some @office.com account and the password doesn't work.
We are totally unable to logon to the laptop.

We have no knowledge of this @office.com account. Our daughter has never set up such an account and we have no idea of what the password may be. We assume that the "office" bit indicates that this is something to do with MSOffice and thereby Microsoft,
but Office isn't even installed on the laptop yet. There is no other user set up to logon to the laptop (I hadn't had the opportunity to set up a helicopter dad account).

11 days after getting her big, expensive birthday present and my daughter only got to play with it for the first 4 days. Gutted!

  3. changing logon account

    Hi

my laptop currently signs in with an @Hotmail email account and password,
I want to change this to a different @Hotmail account but it seems I need to
change it to a "local" account first.

    What is a "local" account?

Can I have two laptop logon to the same @Hotmail account.

    Thanks

    Daniel

Unable to login with microsoft account

    Hi,

Issues with signing in to a Microsoft account are usually happening due
the two-step verification is turned on or you are traveling or using a new device.
For us to provide an accurate resolution, we would need you to answer the following questions:

    • Are you experiencing the sign in issue upon logging in to your computer?
    • Are you having the same error when you are trying to sign in to your Microsoft account using a web browser? If yes, is the same issue happening even when you are using other web browsers?
    • Have you made any changes to your account before this issue occurred?
    • What changes have you made to your computer prior to having this issue?

In the meantime, we suggest that you read and follow the suggested troubleshooting steps on these links:

We are looking forward to your response.
