Win 10 Update 1809 Wiped Out Almost all of my Settings

I use a dual physical drive approach, a smaller "system" SSD for Win 10 and Software, and a larger HDD for Data. Once I get the system totally set up the way "I" want it, I use Partition Wizard to migrate the system drive to a second bootable SSD that I connect via a drive bay in the front of my desktop case.

Earlier, I stupidly let 1809 update my internal system SSD via Windows Update and that was a disaster the same as described below. Fortunately, I had a very recent backup on the backup SSD, so I migrated it back to the internal system SSD, did a bit of work and was back in business.

Yesterday, I did a full maintenance, including running Windows Update, Intel Driver Assistant, updating all the applications, cleaning the registry, deleting unnecessary files, running a full virus check, and SFC /scannow. Once it was all good, I migrated the system SSD to the backup SSD.

Today I migrated the internal system SSD to a second backup SSD that I had. After making sure I could boot to both of the backup SSDs, while booted to the extra backup SSD I ran Media Creation Tool 1809 to update Windows 10 on the second backup SSD.

Result - My data is still there because it is on a separate physical drive. As far as I can tell, all of my installed programs and apps are still there. It appears my Group Policy Tweaks are still there.

However, all of my Settings including how I have the Start (Metro) arranged and some registry hacks, were wiped out.

It will take me hours and hours and hours to put the system back the way "I" want it, and for what improvements? Nothing that I can't live without. I am not going to spend those hours setting up Win 10 again, until I have a reason to install on a new system, and then I will use whatever the latest and worst update there is, since I have to set it up from scratch anyway.

So I booted back to my internal 1803 System drive, which is set it to never update features for 365 days.

If there is another approach that would save my setup or at least most of it, please advise.

I posted this to the MS Answers Community and to Feedback.

    :)

    Confusing.
I assume you mean "not happy" instead of "beyond happy".

At the very least you'll need:
    1. A legitimate W7 install disk and Product Key
    2. KB976932 Service Pack 1
    3. Driver install files
    4. KB3020369 Prerequisite for KB3125574
    5. KB3125574 W7 SP1 Update Rollup (Windows will be updated to April 2016)

    Then follow this tutorial:
    https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...ndows-7-a.html

Once you have successfully installed W7, the updates listed above and the drivers, install a program like Macrium Reflect and create at least 2 Backup System Images (on different external HDDs).
    https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...e-macrium.html

Once you have created the Backup System Images, you can risk downloading the remaining updates for W7.
I only install the Security-Only updates (and some fixes for them):

    Note:
You'll also need to apply IE and .NET updates separately.

    Win 10 1803 to 1809 update

    Good day one and all.

My Desktop computer running Win 10 updated from version 1803 to 1809 a while back, but my laptop/notebook running Win 10 version 1803 (As of a Check for updates today 15 Nov 2018 6:30 AM) still hasn't updated to 1809.

I'm assuming the update 1803 to 1809 has now resumed after the earlier problems caused a suspension?

Updates in general on the laptop are coming through as available, for example, yesterday (14th Nov 2018) the "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 version 1803 for x64 based Systems (KB4467702)" arrived and was installed okay.

    Any thoughts, suggestions?

    Thanks

    Arturo
