  1. Can both computers have a PIN and share data on private network?

I have 2 laptops and want to share data between them.
    They are both w10 1803.
Can I use a PIN on both and share data or does one need to have a password set?

Also when I right click a folder I don't see a SHARE option. Am I going nuts?

    :)

  2. Error: "Can create home group in private network only" - the wireless network is private though

    Hi Ron,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community, we appreciate your interest in Windows 10.

I understand your concern about connecting to HomeGroup network with error: Can create home group in private network only, we will help you with this issue.

I would like to inform that this issue might have occurred due to settings in the Network type on Windows 10.

Step 1: I suggest you to check with the network type on Windows 10, try the below:

Right click on the Network icon in the System tray
and click on Open Network and Sharing Center.

Here you will see the network you are connected to and what type of network Windows 10 has identified it as. (Private/ Public).

Step 2: Also, I suggest you to change the network type to Private if it is not and check if it helps.

    • Log-in as an Administrator, on the desktop, click on the Network system icon in the taskbar notification area.
    • Right click on your network connection and click on
      Turn sharing on or off
      .
    • Click on Yes, turn on sharing and connect to devices.

    • Accept the UAC (User Account Control) prompt and check if it helps.

  4. Can both computers have a PIN and share data on private network?

Sharing folders on a private network

I've been trying to set up my family's private network so the individual computers can access shared folders on the other systems, however one system is not cooperating. In network sharing advanced, I've set the computer to recognize
it's on a private network, turned on network discovery and file and print sharing, turned on public file sharing and turned off password protected sharing.

Despite this, while the pc is discoverable in the other systems Network folder of File Explorer, we get a request for permissions every time we try to access the system (And I mean when we click the icon in the top layer of Network,
before even seeing the individual shared folders).

What can I do to make this work?

Also, everyone's running windows 10 and we're connecting via ethernet.
