    Best way to shutdown machines automatically?


    Hello, in a school enviroment, many computers are being left on over night.

    The machines have a group policy for 'User prefrence to put computers to sleep after X' time

    however this does not work when nobody is logged on and it sits on the login screen, tried to do this for the computer policy however shutdown does not work. is goes to sleep

    What is the best practise for this? Schedule to check if idle and hibernate/shutdown?

    anyone recently done this, thanks

    Resolution Suggestion:

    # To resolve this problem, make sure that BITS and the Automatic Updates service are started..

    A simple solution but one that works in most circumstances!

    1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

    2. In the list of services, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Properties.

    3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.

    4. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

    5. Right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.

    6. In the Startup type list, click Manual, and then click Apply.

    7. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.
