Windows 10: Win 10 1803-1809 GHow to keep actual creation date when copying/moving files

Hi,


My while filling system is getting messed up because when I copy some files to another backup drive, the date created goes to when they were copied.


I really need the actual creation date.


If I changed the file then yes give it a modified date, but if not I need the actual date it was first created,


These are video files and it is important I can see the creation date for sorting etc.


Any help please?

Win 10 1803 to 1809 update

Good day one and all.

My Desktop computer running Win 10 updated from version 1803 to 1809 a while back, but my laptop/notebook running Win 10 version 1803 (As of a Check for updates today 15 Nov 2018 6:30 AM) still hasn't updated to 1809.

I'm assuming the update 1803 to 1809 has now resumed after the earlier problems caused a suspension?

Updates in general on the laptop are coming through as available, for example, yesterday (14th Nov 2018) the "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 version 1803 for x64 based Systems (KB4467702)" arrived and was installed okay.

Any thoughts, suggestions?

When a document is copied to a new location, the mod and creation date are changed to the date of the copy. But with picture and video files, these always also retain the original creation date regardless of how many times they were copied or edited.
Why can’t something like this be implemented for other file types?



But the system is what it is. For those of you who need to know the actual date a file was created and/or modified, how do you keep track of this? Some files, like PDF’s also retain this data which can be viewed from within Acrobat or the Reader, but
most other files just rely on Window’s properties. Any suggestions?
