Windows 10: Right lick desktop - Cannot select New Folder option

When I right click the desktop, the window opens nicely.

All of the options within the window are selectable EXCEPT "New".

When I click on "NEW", the computer freezes for about 20 seconds and then closes all windows that are open on the desktop.

I haven't been able to find anything related to this problem.

No shortcut option on right click desktop


A very good suggestion which has highlight another problem, when I right click ANY folder and select Properities, nothing happens

Some users suggest:

Open Control Panel then click File Explorer Options. Look for the option in top of the message sub-window Open the File explorer to–in that box you should select “This PC” apply it and do not select “quick Access.” Maybe you can create a New Folder now.

Other than that try this reg fix:

NewFolderfix.reg
Download file to desktop then right click and choose "Merge"

Reboot and test.

 

Why all my newly created files and folders Encrypted in Desktop?

Every time I create a new folder or file and save it to my Desktop, a gold padlock icon appears on it. I tried the following steps but no use:

1. Go to C:\Users\User_Name and select Desktop folder, right click on it, select properties, then go to Advanced, unchecked the option "Encrypt the option to secure data". Then it shows one error as

"An error occurred trying to apply attributes to the file:

C:\Users\User_name\Desktop

The specific file could not be decrypted" .

2. Open an administrator command line and run "cipher /u /n" to list all the EFS files.

Then run "cipher /d "path to the file"" to decrypt all the EFS files.

Any other suggestions ?
