Windows 10: Firewire Sound Interface disappears from Device Manager (after Windows Update)

Hello, I own a Focusrite Saffire Pro DSP 24, connected on a VIA 6308P integrated 1394a firewire controller (Motherboard Asus P8-Z68V Pro). I have windows 10 Pro, 1803 Build with all the latest drivers installed.


The above setup was working without a problem for years, then suddenly what I describe in the title happened.


Computer boots, can hear sound from the speakers, open my email, do some browsing, speakers icon in tray gets a red X icon. I look in the device manager and the sound interface is gone (!). This is not the first time troubleshooting this, which ended up fixing on its own (after another windows update I assume).


Now the above again happened. Three days ago I was asked to "update and restart" and again this same problem from the past happened again. Sound interface disappears from Device Manager.


Regarding the Firewire driver I have installed the legacy ones. (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2970191)


Also in the past I could power off and on the sound card and getting the sound interface operating again, with sound. Now I have to do this and restart. Then getting sound for some minutes then again it disappears.


This is so frustrating and since I have a pair of studio monitors on it (thus can't remove it) I would be grateful to any advice or possible solutions on this matter.

1394a Firewire drivers for Windows 10

I have a Siig too an 800 3 port pcie in particular. i was having intermittent sound issues and thought it was my audio interface but soon found it was the firewire drivers. i updated to the latest drivers and lost sound completely.

cut a long story short i went to device manager after updating three times just to be sure, and saw the siig 1394 controller at the top of the list labelled as a bus controller, i just thought it was odd and not where it normally sits in the list, so i right
clicked it and clicked update drivers, it prompted me to choose from where so i'd pretty much given up by now and clicked from the web. then a little bar came up filled up and up popped my profire (firewire device)

might not be that helpful but i thought id chip in since i had this page open when i stumbled upon the solution.

Since the above steps did not help to fix the issue. I suggest you to uninstall and re-install the sound card and check if it helps.

• 
  Press (Windows key + X) and click on “Device Manager”.
  
• 
  Expand “Sound, video and game controller”.
  
• 
  Right click on the device driver and select
  uninstall.
  
• 
  Once uninstall is done, restart the computer.

After installing Windows 10 sound driver is not available in Device Manager and issues with sound.

This issue might occur if sound driver is corrupt.

To assist you better, please provide us the information below:

• When you say that "there is nothing in the device manager for sound gone", is the sound driver available in the Device Manager driver list?
• Are you getting any error message on the computer?
