When we announced the Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 5G Modem back in 2016, it was a groundbreaking step forward, setting us on the road to 5G commercialization. It’s since become an essential part of virtually every major 5G trial or launch, helping spearhead 5G adoption globally. Flexibility and improved network performance for operators

Snapdragon X55 is designed to provide comprehensive support for 5G NR TDD and FDD, as well as mmWave and sub-6 GHz spectrum. It also supports 5G non-standalone (NSA) and standalone (SA) modes, and 5G/4G spectrum sharing. As a result, devices powered by Snapdragon X55 will offer extensive flexibility to operators for utilizing their spectrum assets to help bring the best connected experiences to consumers. In addition to providing flexibility, 5G/4G spectrum sharing support also helps operators improve network efficiency and capacity. The added full-dimension MIMO (FD-MIMO) support in Snapdragon X55 allows operators to utilize both azimuth (horizontal) and elevation (vertical) beamforming to boost spectral efficiency.

Modem-to-antenna 5G solution

While the modem is at the heart of a wireless device, a significant amount of system-level innovation beyond the modem is needed in order to build a high performance, power-efficient 5G device. A discrete or component-based approach is no longer sufficient for meaningfully addressing the RF design challenges posed by 5G.

Snapdragon X55 is part of a comprehensive modem-to-antenna solution which includes the baseband, RF IC, and complete RF front-end for mmWave and sub-6 GHz. Qualcomm Announces World’s First 2 Gbps LTE Modem

Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced that its subsidiary, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., has started sampling the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X24 LTE modem, the world’s first announced Category 20 LTE modem supporting up to 2 gigabits per second (Gbps) download speeds, and the first-announced chip built on a leading-edge 7 nanometer FinFET process. It is the Company’s eighth generation LTE multimode modem and third generation Gigabit LTE solution, featuring the most advanced cellular features of any commercially available 4G LTE modem to date, and strengthening the LTE foundation for future 5G NR multimode devices and networks. The Snapdragon X24 LTE modem will be featured in a live demonstration at Mobile World Congress Barcelona in conjunction with Ericsson, Telstra and NETGEAR.

As the world’s first commercially announced Category 20 LTE modem supporting download speeds up to 2 Gbps, the Snapdragon X24 LTE modem delivers 2x the speed of the Company’s first generation Gigabit LTE modem. The Snapdragon X24 supports up to 7x carrier aggregation in the downlink, as well as 4x4 MIMO on up to five aggregated LTE carriers – both mobile industry firsts – for a total of up to 20 concurrent spatial LTE streams. This unprecedented feature set is designed to allow devices that feature the Snapdragon X24 LTE modem to utilize all spectrum assets available from a mobile operator, whether in licensed spectrum, or with License Assisted Access (LAA). Snapdragon 855 will be 7nm and support 5G with Snapdragon X50 modem

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM), announced that its upcoming flagship mobile platform will feature a system-on-chip (SoC) built on the 7nm process node. The 7nm SoC can be paired with the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X50 5G modem, which is expected to be the first 5G-capable mobile platform for premium tier smartphones and other mobile devices.
