Windows 10: Difficulty Installing Media Features Pack [Windows Media Player] In Windows 10 Pro N

Hello,


I have an HP laptop that I bought in America with Windows 10, currently running Windows 10 Pro N after the hard drive crashed with my license while I was in England. The biggest change in usage I have noticed is that now, when I connect my iPhone to my computer by an official usb cable, no window pops up asking me what I want to do with the device. The window looked similar to when you plug a flash drive in and can view the folders inside. This used to be how I would transfer photos off my iPhone in bulk, but now it doesn't work.


After speaking with support from Apple, we have found that all of the drivers on Apple's end are right [as my phone is still recognized in itunes and device manager] and that ultimately the issue is that I do not have windows media player on my computer as it is not included in the N versions of windows.


I have tried the following things already.

1. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/mediafeaturepack > Media Feature pack 1809

Once dowloaded, it will not run and "Windows Update Standalone Installer" tells me, "The update is not applicable to your computer"

2. Using Microsoft Photos with my iPhone plugged in to bulk download through Photos

The import button is nonexistent in my app [probably because there is some media feature missing]


3. Typing "help" into the task bar search and getting to speaking with a human representative

This was RIDICULOUSLY frustrating the tech clearly had no knowledge of windows media player as the first thing he did was open the app store and down load A GAME called "Media Player S" WHICH CLEARLY is not even a microsoft app. Due to the remote desktop connection, it also was stupidly frustrating to get him to STOP as every time I tried to bring the cursor to out chat box, he would drag it away. [and for anyone who has done this before, did your 'tech' ask your for your name and phone number??????]



Things I will not consider
Using iCloud

The photos you put in icloud are accessible on your pc, but they do not become jpeg files on your pc, you must view them through iCloud so its not reeeeally a transfer.


Things I am DOING/Considering
1. Using the google drive app top manually upload all of the pictures off of my phone and then redownload them onto my pc [for lack of drive storage] This is incredibly time consuming...........

2. Getting a license for the American version of windows and installing that so that it COMES with media player [but I dont want it to reset my PC so this is sort of last on my list]

Win10 N Will not install Media pack

I am using windows 10N Insider preview and The media pack will not install. I have tried the following:

• Media Feature Pack list for Windows N editions
• Media Feature Pack for N and KN editions of Windows 10 Version 1508 - KB3010081
• Media Feature Pack for N and KN editions of Windows 10 Version 1511 - KB3010081
• Media Feature Pack for N editions of Windows 10 Version 1607 - KB3133719
• Media Feature Pack for N edition of Windows 10 Version 1703 - KB4016817
• Media Feature Pack for N edition of Windows 10 Version 1709 - KB4039813

The only one to install was the very first one. However Media player is not installed, there are no media player folders. I can add the app.

Every other version say the update is not applicable to your system. Not sure how
that's even possible. I have uninstalled and reinstalled many times and nothing. No media player. Should I just assume that it does not work and will never be fixed or is there some magic that I
don't know about to get this thing working and installed correctly?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Windows Media Features turned on and no Media player . Not an "N" Version

I am trying to install Icloud for Windows 10 and it need the media player to work.

I am not a "N" Version but a standard Windows 10 Pro on a Surface Pro 4.

Version 1809.

I have checked in Windows Features and the Media Features has been ticked. I have done all the permutations of ticking and un-ticking with multiple restarts and still no Media Player.

I have also unselected the Media features, downloaded the N Version of the media pack and tried to load that. Still no luck.

Does anybody have any suggestions?
