    Windows 10 extremely slow on RESTART but boot up from shutdown is fast


    I am refurbishing a desktop machine which entails wiping the disk and installing a fairly up-to-date iso of Win10 Pro. Win 10 installed fine and was activated then run Windows Update until up-to-date. Then installed Office Home & Bus 2010 and run Windows Update again until up-to-date.

    I have now become aware the whilst a fresh boot up runs quite fast, a RESTART however runs for a number of minutes. The screen shows the starup logo

    and the revolving circle of dots (indicating progress) runs for a few seconds and then stops.

    Eventually (4-5 mins at least) the local sign on screen appears.

    Hi starvinmarvin, this is Techhelper89. I'm here to help.

    Try the following troubleshooting steps:

    Step 1: Disable Fast Startup and check if it works for you.

    Fast startup is a new feature in Windows to help your PC start up faster after shutting down. When turned on, Windows does this by using a hybrid shutdown (a partial hibernate) method that saves only the kernel session and device drivers (system
    information) to hibernate (hiberfil.sys) file on disk instead of closing it when you shut down your PC.

    Steps:

    1. Press Windows + X key and click Control Panel.
    2. Click on Power options.
    3. Click on Choose what the power buttons do.
    4. Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable. If it prompts to click on yes, then click Yes.
    5. Uncheck Turn on fast startup (Recommended) under shutdown settings.
    6. Click Save changes to configure the settings.

    To add to what @Drone said, W10 still does not seem to like power-saving features in BIOS, and doesn't seem to like the "fast start" option in Windows, which ironically makes it faster without that option.

    Just done a fresh install of windows 10. Still got the same problem.
    Turn pc on from cold or a restart. Hangs on the win boot logo for a minute or so then boots in to the desktop
    cant work it out why its so slow to boot up? any ideas*Mad Windows 10 extremely slow on RESTART but boot up from shutdown is fast :mad:
