  1. Open file - security warning suddenly appears for all image files

Two days ago I suddenly began getting a pop up box saying "Open File - security warning" every time I tried to open any of my photos. It stated "Unknown publisher" and has a box to untick so I don't have to have it pop up again. However, it does it for all of my photos...jpgs and pngs etc. How can I get it back to how it was? I want to be able to open pictures without having to untick a box.

I tried system restore, but that didn't work.

I've searched online and the only solutions offered result my system having no protection at all. Thanks.

    :)

Reg/batch to disable "Open File - Security Warning"

That's ok. To help clarify for everyone, which registry editing did you use and apply?

In addition, what error message are you trying to get rid of?

If you mean for the "Open-File Security Warning" message, then you could use the download in step 5 of OPTION ONE in the tutorial below to disable it.

    opening .dds files with gimp

Simply, HOW? I got the DDS plugin but the POS wont open DDS files still. Can someone give me a step-by-step rundown of how to install the DDS plugin for gimp so I know if I'm missing something?

    File Download security warning

Suddenly when I click on many, but not all, of my favorite Internet shortcuts I see a file download security warning asking me to reconsider (open or cancel). This may relate to my computer having received many Microsoft security updates within the previous
    24 hours.

Two days after writing the above: I did system restore to the state before the many updates of 9/14 (3 days ago). The file download security warnings went away. Then Windows Update re-installed updates, and the warnings came back. Microsoft please take
    note!

Three weeks after asking my question: If I click on the link KB3185319 that appears in About Internet Explorer in the dropdown tools list at the upper right of the IE window I find that Microsoft acknowledges the file download security warning as a problem
with this update that they know about. I hope they issue a corrective update soon. At first I feared that there really was a new security problem with my machine,, and that was quite upsetting. On the other hand, this update must have a purpose, and either
deleting it, or running a cmd.exe instruction that Microsoft doesn't itself certify, seems much too risky.

Problem Solved: On 10/27/2016 I received three updates from Microsoft and now the File Download Security Warning popups no longer appear. The updates were KB3197954, KB3199986 and KB3201860 (the last was for Adobe Flash Player, so not likely involved).
Thank you Microsoft! But, the problem persists on my one Widows 7 machine that can't be upgraded to Windows 10.
