Windows 10: Backup/Image of my Laptop with a SSD

My relatively new Lenono Laptop's Windows 10 SSD suddenly stopped working and the shop said it is DEAD.
So upgraded the SSD to a 1 tb but I needs some advise.

I would like to get a Backup or Image software of my 1tb SSD to a 1-5tb HD in case is fails again. What would be preferred is a Image, or Backup that is kept up to date by itself Or to run periodically.
An Image would be better as it would be like a hot backup, plug and boot.

Any recommendations?

[HELP]Image recovery issues

Guys i am trying to fix my cousins Asus Eee netbook. It has a backup image file that is partitioned on the hard drive but when I go to use it the app will run through a few steps and stop. It is running Vista . Any suggestions?

 

Using network hard drive for backup

It depends what sort of backup you want to do. If you're happy just backing up regular files, then there are a bazillion (really, that many!) different bits of freeware to do that. There is a good list here:

and pretty much all of them can do network backups. Some even have fancy options like encryption. Really, the most useful thing is just being able to schedule them and know they ran OK.

You may also want to make a system image backup too, and you'll find that software in the very same list.

I don't have Windows 8 as yet, so I'm afraid I can't suggest any for that platform. Personally, I use Clonezilla for image backups.

 

Macrium Reflect and SSD drive


Here's an easy way to do it, With your SSD connected.

1. If not already done. Create a backup image of your current Windows HD. From Macrium, click on "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows"
   NOTE: you could actually clone the disk, but create a backup then restore will allow Macrium to correctly align the cluster size and perform trimming on the new SSD.
2. After step 1 is done, click on Restore tab, select the image from step 1 then click on Select different target disk, select the SSD as destination disk then click on Next->Finish. No need to use/boot from Rescue disk. It will be faster and Macrium will also perform trimming on the new SSD.
3. Disconnect the HD and reboot. Windows should boot up with the new SSD.
