Windows won't boot from .iso on flash drive [USB] despite having done so previously.

My PC was having a problem booting into Windows. When I powered-up the machine I'd get the black+white 'DOS-looking' start-up script. Then the simple 4-pane blue Windows logo which would change to a black screen and rotating ring of dots, and after say 10 seconds the dots would disappear leaving a blank/ black screen.

Looking into it I decided to try booting from a 'rescue ISO' flash drive, with the appropriate version of Win-10/64 bit downloaded from the MS page.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10#mainContent

Initially I thought if I booted up the PC with the stick inserted it would attempt to boot from it, or prompt me to choose the boot-drive - I've had to do this before (Jan/2019) and that is what happened that time before it successfully loaded the OS; but on this occasion it didn't. I determined that I had to go into the BIOS and manually change the order of the boot-up drives under Boot/Options, so that the USB stick was no.1, I did that and Saved/Exit.

I re-booted with the USB flash but unlike previously the PC did not identify the flash drive and the above repeated, ie. blue 4-pane Windows logo, to ring of dots on black screen, to a blank/black screen. In case the USB front port was at issue, I tried again through a rear port, but this didn't make a difference.

Do you have any suggestions for how I should proceed?

If I can get back to the point where I can again boot Windows off an .iso/flash drive, what are the next steps? 'Repairing' the OS on the internal primary drive? Manually changing the boot order in the BIOS to boot from that primary drive?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

    :)

  2. Bootable USB with ISO - What am I missing?

Have you copied all the files from the ISO to the flash drive? I can't see that step.

After step 10. (after formatting and making it the active partition)

Copy files from the ISO to flash drive.

    Open CMD as administrator.

navigate to the flash drive, lets call it drive Z and type in the following commands.
    Z:
    cd boot
    bootsect.exe /nt60 z:
    exit

    Then try again.

Installing Windows 7 via USB flash drive!

i have been installing Windows 7 Ultimate x86 OEM from my Kingston G2 8gb usb for over 6month now, and it's formattet as NTFS but you need to active the partition on the usb flash drive to get it to boot propperly and give it the barcode that the Windows 7 disc have.

i have use this guide several times but once the usb flash drive's partition is activated you never need to do that again.

The pendrive seems to be only for linux? although seems very useful i dont think it will help me with this. Keeping it for future linux installs though

hmmm if I already have the iso, do I just throw that in the usb drive?
