  1. Slow speed after a Windows 10 update ? - Here's an easy fix

Solution for slow speed after a Windows Update

First, is your PC a desktop or a laptop ?

If it's a desktop, go straight to Step 2

Step 1 (for laptops only - see the Postscript below for the reason)

Do a “Cold Shutdown” and Restart

    - First do a Shut-down

    - Then remove the battery - even if the shut-down has frozen

    - Also unplug the power cord - if it's connected

    - Then wait 3 minutes, for the remaining power and memory to fully drain

    - Next, re-connect the battery, plug-in the power cord and restart

    Step 2 (desktops and laptops)

    - Ensure all applications have been closed

    - Press [Wondows key]+R together

    - This opens the Run box

    - Alongside "Open", type MSConfig then press enter

    - This will open the System Configuration tool

    - In the Tools tab, select Windows Troubleshooting

    - This will open the Settings menu. Go down to Troubleshoot and click on Windows Update, then run the Troubleshooter

    - This should find and fix any installation errors from a recent Windows Update

    - Then restart your computer, as usual - it should run normally

    Postscript, for laptop users only

    - Sometimes a Windows laptop might not fully powerdown during the Restart process

    - This can cause an error when installing a Windows Update

    - Runnng a Shutdown, then removing the battery and reinstalling it as above, before Starting agsin, should prevent these errors.

    Technical Note

The slow speed is caused by the malfunctioning of the Runtime Broker system process,

which can occurr if there has been an error during the Update's installation.

Running the above steps should fix RB and it should then run normally.

You can check this by right-clicking a vacant area on your Task Bar, then opening the Task Manager.

Then look under Background Proceses, for RunTime Broker.

It should normally have, at most, only a couple of percent of CPU time and about 1 MB of memory.

(there may be several RB processes running).
