    Cannot reset child account password

We recently purchased a new Windows 10 computer. We were excited to create new outlook.com email addresses for each of my daughters so we set them up with new accounts. These accounts have never worked. We tried logging in and were unable to. On both. We tried resetting their passwords and we cannot. We instead get a generic error message emailed to us. These accounts, as specified when creating them are for an 8 year old and a 10 year old. I contacted chat support and the referred me to telephone support. The phone support guy remoted in and couldn't fix the issue. The generic denial message we get mentions taking my kids' privacy seriously, which I get, but they're 10 and 8. For God's sake MS sends me a weekly email detailing their internet browsing history, which is of course blank because their accounts are basically useless. It seems pretty unacceptable that a parent is unable to reset the password of their child. Support recommended creating new email addresses for them. The problem is they're little girls, and they LOVE these new addresses. Way to go M$. Hide behind a faceless bureaucracy with lame excuses when your UX is abominable.

Received 2 of these a day for the past 3 days and then I get locked out from trying again.

We recently received a request to recover your Microsoft account *** Email address is removed for privacy ***. Please submit a new account verification form

At this point, your best option is to submit a new form with as much accurate information as you can gather. The more information you can include in the form, the better the chance you’ll have of regaining access to your account. We’ve included a few tips below to help you fill out the form as completely and accurately as possible.

    > Submit a new form

Helpful tips for filling out another form:

    • Answer as many questions as you can.
    • Use the information you provided when you created the account, or last updated it.
    • Submit the form from a computer you frequently use.
    • You will be asked to list recently used email addresses and the subject lines from recent emails. Ask for help from family members, friends, or business contacts to confirm their email addresses and tell you the subject lines of the last three emails they sent you.
    • Make sure to use the correct domain for your account, such as hotmail.com, live.com, or outlook.com. Keep in mind that your email address may be country specific. For example, if you created your account in Sweden, your domain would be “hotmail.co.se” rather than “hotmail.com”.

Help resetting password on Child Account

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community.

    1. What is the error you have received while trying to reset password?
    2. Is the child account a Microsoft Account or a local account?

I can understand that must make you feel upset, and I appreciate your effort that you have taken to resolve this issue.

Assuming you have already tried resetting the password from account.live.com, I don’t wish to suggest you with the same option. I would suggest you to
refer the article Recover your Microsoft Account
and also refer the section Tips for filling out the recovery form to recover the issue account.

    Hope it helps.
