What's caused these strange problems (especially Notepad) after the latest WU? Win10

I'd been working on my laptop since 11pm last night. When shutting it down an hour or so later I saw that there had been a Cumulative Update for Windows 10 version 1809 for x64-based Systems. I powered it up again and found the following had happened:

    (1) four Word documents had been auto-recovered and I had to decide which ones to keep.

They included my template Word (I'd changed the font & font size four days ago)

    (2) 40 or so icons had appeared on my desktop.

On removing the icons, I found that 20 or so were notes I'd made on Notepad over the past month.

Is it just me it's happened to? Hoping someone will help.

    :)

Has anyone else experienced WU build number problems in the September WUs? Win10

Updating my spare laptop, I've found some strange things.

My signature on my main laptop includes this: "Win10 Home v1803 build 17134.285".
But this is lower than what the August WU changed it to, viz 17134.286 so my build number was going backwards.

To add to the confusion, my spare laptop (also Win10 Home and last updated in August) showed 17134.288.

After updating, I checked for updates on both and there was a second WU on both - two on the same day; does anyone know why?

The new build number on both is 17134.2320 and let's hope that there isn't a third WU (as happened once).

Has anyone else experienced these WU build number problems in the September WUs?

Why is my Notepad now anchored to the bottom mid-screen? Since October's WUs. Win10

Hello Mr Da Costa. Most of the evidence in my other threads points to my having the latest Win10 update but my File History still shows November's Cumulative WU KB4048955 as having failed.

I've tried downloading it from the links you suggest - again conflicting results so I'll guess I'll have to wait until the next round of WUs to see if that corrects my notepad problem. Thanks anyway.

Access to Notepad denied after EVERY log in to Win 10.

I also tried to find the notepad icon (as suggested by another source) in C;\Windows\Systems32 but could not get it to accept notepad.exe
