Windows 10: Windows 10: Settings App Crashing upon Launch | ms-settings error: -2147219196

Hi,


For some reason, my Settings app on Windows 10 does not want to launch. All it does is open for 1 second, then crash immediately. I've tried multiple things; a new user, resetting the Settings app with a CMD command, all of the above. I haven't tried a refresh/reset (mostly because I like my apps and would like to keep them). Any reply is extremely appreciated, however this is not too urgent since we have control panel.

There could be a number of factors as to why you can't launch the Settings app in Windows 10. This could be caused by corrupted system files, software conflict, or due to a corrupted user account.

I would like to know more about your concern. Kindly verify the changes made to the computer prior to the issue. Are you getting any error message when trying to launch the Settings app?

Meanwhile, I suggest that you create a new user account. This is for us to check if the issue is due to a corrupted user profile. To do this, refer to the steps below:

• Select the Start button, then select Settings > Accounts > Family & other people > Add someone else to this PC.
  
• Enter a user name, password, password hint, and then select Next.

App and Setting not launching in windows 10

• press ‘Windows key + X’
• Select the option ‘Command Prompt (Admin).
• Type:

Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}



Also, run the troubleshooter.

SETTINGS APP CRASHES

Hello, thanks for replying to my question. Fortunately, I was able to solve the problem before viewing your reply. I created a temporary new user account using command prompt and used the new user account to update windows 10. As soon as my windows 10
is up to date the settings app no longer crash. For the time being, the problem is solved. If in the future this problem surface again I might try the steps you suggested.
