Windows 10: USB Tethering - 'No (internet) Connection' but still able to connect partially?

I'm having the issue where I tether my phone's internet access to my laptop via USB and the icon in the taskbar shows that little yellow triangle - indicating there is no connection.

So far,

1. When I try adding a language in Settings it says that 'You're currently offline'.
2. When I try to sign in to Microsoft Store after logging out, I get 'It doesn't look like you're connected to the internet. Check your connection and try again' and error code 0x800704cf.

Thing is, I'm able to connect to the internet fine on my phone (browsing, accessing website, etc.). What baffles me even further is that I'm also able to do so on my laptop. It's just the Windows services that aren't really connecting from what I've noticed.

To summarise,

• Yellow triangle is present - indicating no connection
• Phone is able to connect to the internet perfectly fine
• Laptop is able to access the internet, but Windows services aren't

How do I connect to internet via bluetooth tethering?


I need to connect my laptop to the internet using my android phone. I've paired both devices and I've enabled bluetooth tethering on my phone. My phone is listed when I navigate from 'join a personal network' in bluetooth options in taskbar but I cannot connect using access point, only direct connection is listed as the option.

• Did you try another device to connect to your computer using USB tethering?
• Are you able to view that your phone is connected on the Windows Explorer?

Up to the manufacturer? No. To be able to tether a phone a USB modem driver has to be installed as part of the USB cable driver. See a modem?



Safety of WiFi? It's pretty safe when your phone is creating the Wi/Fi connection.



Using the phone as a modem, USB tethering, is old technology. Using the phone to create a WiFi Hotspot for several devices is the new technology. Wouldn't want to tke a step back would we.
