Windows fails to start first time, hard power off, then it starts

More and more frequently - now almost every time - when I start my HP Pavilion Desktopp7-1040uk it doesn't start properly. It looks as though something is happening on the screen but it seems to give up and the screen remains blank. I have no alternative but to push the power button for a few seconds to force the machine to shut down. After it shuts down, wait a couple of seconds, press the Power button and it boots up okay. It takes a long time - Please Wait - but it does boot up and then is okay. Is my machine about to die? Is there anything I can do to get things back to normal.

    :)

windows 10 fails to start properly

    Hi Dave,

Windows 10 may have encountered a system corruption after the update. For us to help you correct this, we suggest that you run a startup repair as an initial troubleshooting step:

    • Boot to Advanced
Startup Options from a hard reboot. Press and hold the power button on your PC until it powers off and until it powers on. Repeat this process for three times.
    • A Windows logo screen or Please
      wait will appear during boot.
    • Select
      See advanced repair options.
    • Under
      Advanced
      Startup Options, select
      Troubleshoot.
    • Select
      Advanced options.
Under Advanced options, select Startup Repair.
    • If prompted, select an administrator account to provide credentials for approval, type in the password and click
      Continue.
    • Startup Repair will now
      start Diagnosing your PC,
and attempt to automatically repair it.
    • To boot back to Windows 10, click
Advanced options. Click Troubleshoot and click Continue instead.

    Let us know the results.

Two instances of GPU-Z starting at Windows Start-up, asking for administrative rights

Thank you for your quick reply. This is not the case:

    *86425-d3af8638f056977cc8952dcbea169052.jpg*

A reinstall didnt fix this behaviour. I am still getting the "GPU-Z wants to change your computer."-dialogue.

Meanwhile, another program (Universal Media Server) fails to start with Windows although its in the start up list. This is all weird. I need myself to buy a new machine.

unable to start the Windows time service on Windows 10

    Hi Enriq,

As you are facing issue with starting the Windows Time Service, do not worry we will help you with this issue.

Do let us know the following to assist you better with this issue:

    • What exactly happens when you try to turn on the service?
    • What is the complete error message/ error code of this issue?
    • Have you made any changes to the operating system prior to this issue?

Method 1: I suggest you to run a SFC scan and check if it helps.

System File Checkeris a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

    Follow the below steps:

    • Right click on the Start button, click on
      Command Prompt (Admin).
    • Type “sfc /scannow” without the quotes and hit
      Enter.
    • After the scan, restart the computer and check for the issue.

Note: If you are not able to repair some files after performing SFC scan, I suggest you to refer to the point 3 “Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to
fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log %WinDir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log”. Under the section “Run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe)” to repair the corrupted files after performing SFC scan.

Refer: Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

Method 2: I suggest you to Restart Windows Time Service and check if it helps.

Windows Time Service maintains date and time synchronization on all clients and servers in the network. If this service is stopped date and time synchronization will be unavailable. If this service is disabled,
any services that explicitly depends on it will fail to start.

    Step 1: Stop the service:

    • Press Windows Key + R on the keyboard and type
      services.msc, Services window gets opened.
    • Search for Windows Time service and stop.
    • To do so, right click on each service select Stop
    • Restart the device.

Step 2: Start the service and set it to automatic:

    • Press Windows Key + R on the keyboard and type
      services.msc
      , Services window gets opened.
    • Search for Windows Time service, right click on it and click on
      Properties.
    • Start the service, set
      Startup type to Automatic.

Hope it helps. Kindly update the status of accessing the Windows Time Service for further assistance.

    Thank you.
