Microsoft tests Windows 10 May 2019 Update Build 18362.207

Microsoft is testing a new cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1903 with Insiders in the Release Preview Ring. If the update qualifies Microsoft’s standards, it will be pushed to all Windows 10 May 2019 Update devices later this month.

If you have subscribed to Release Preview Ring, you will receive Windows 10 Build 18362.207 (KB4501375). We don’t know what has improved with today’s update as Microsoft hasn’t published the changelog of Windows 10 May 2019 Update Build 18362.207 yet.

The company is expected to share information on fixes and improvements included in this release when the public rollout to production devices begins.

In addition to this cumulative update, a new servicing stack for Windows 10 is also being tested with Insiders. Windows 10 servicing stack update KB4506933 is available for Release Preview Ring and it is supposed to improve Windows Update reliability.

    The existing known issues

The rollout of Windows 10 May 2019 Update started late last month, but the update is not available for every system because of Microsoft’s gradual rollout approach.

The software giant also maintains a list of known issues. At the moment, the known issues page lists the following problems and their mitigations:

    Windows Sandbox

Windows Sandbox is a new feature shipped with Windows 10 May 2019 Update and it allows users to run apps in an isolated environment, technically protecting the main system.

Unfortunately, Sandbox is not working on some devices and users are unable to launch Sandbox. Microsoft has promised that fix for Sandbox problem will be included in an upcoming release.

    Brightness issue

Microsoft is investigating another known issue in Windows 10 version 1903 where the display may not respond to brightness adjustments on Intel hardware. According to Microsoft, the brightness adjustments may not apply unless a system reboot is performed.

The company says that brightness issues will be fixed in an upcoming cumulative update.

    Audio issues

Microsoft is aware of another bug where the audio may not work with Dolby Atmos headphones and home theater. Microsoft is investigating this problem and the company plans to fix it in an upcoming cumulative update.

Similarly, Microsoft is also planning to fix the USB storage upgrade block, night light issues and other problems in a future release.

    Office 2019

Only supported on Win10. Sorry, 8.1 users, only 4 years old, gotta go.

Microsoft Office 2019 will only work on Windows 10

    Spoiler Office 2019
Last year at Ignite, we announced Office 2019 – the next perpetual version of Office that includes apps (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and Skype for Business) and servers (including Exchange, SharePoint, and Skype for Business). Today we’re pleased to share the following updates:

    • Office 2019 will ship in H2 of 2018. Previews of the new apps and servers will start shipping in the second quarter of 2018.
    • Office 2019 apps will be supported on:
      • Any supported Windows 10 SAC release
      • Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2018
      • The next LTSC release of Windows Server
    • The Office 2019 client apps will be released with Click-to-Run installation technology only. We will not provide MSI as a deployment methodology for Office 2019 clients. We will continue to provide MSI for Office Server products.

  3. Microsoft Office 2019 Will Run on Windows 10, and Only Windows 10

How is this news or surprising to anyone?
Especially when there are viable and arguably better open-source alternatives out there.. For those of us who don't use Microsoft Office, this isn't a problem.

Microsoft Office 2019 Will Run on Windows 10, and Only Windows 10

As reported yesterday, Microsoft changed the way how they license Windows 10 to their OEM partners. But buckle in folks, the changes just keep on coming. In what looks like an effort to push Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 owners to upgrade, Microsoft has officially announced that Office 2019 will only work on machines with Windows 10 and the next LTSC release of Windows Server. That's only the tip of the iceberg though. Unlike previous version of Office that came with 10 years of support, Office 2019's support lifecycle is shortened to five years of mainstream support and two years of extended support. Additionally, the client applications are only available with a Click-to-Run installer. However, Microsoft will continue to provide a MSI installer for the server applications.
