Could Not reassociate with File History data The system cannot find the path specified

    Hello,

I have been using Windows 10 Pro File History with a WD My Cloud network attached storage. A recent WIN10 update broke the network connection with my storage, so for last couple of months I used a USB hard drive connected directly to my PC for File History backup until I could solve the network issue.

The network connection has now been restored. However, I cannot resume backing up to my network drive. Nor can I start over with a completely fresh backup.

When I attempt to change the target for backing up to the network drive (from the USB drive back to the network drive), the File History dialogue locates the old backup location, warns me it is not the latest backup, and then refuses to backup. Instead I get the error in the Subject of this inquiry.

I have tried running sfc /scannow and did repair some corrupted files.

I have tried deleting the configuration in users/app data/local/microsoft/windows/filehistory.

I have renamed the old backup folder location

I have moved the old backup folder location.

However, the file history dialogue insists on pointing to the old backup and then refuses to proceed. Apparently it will not release the old configuration. Any other solutions for starting a new backup on the network drive?

    :)

  3. The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it- File History

I tried the CLEAN BOOT, but everytime I tried it, the "Services" tab stopped responding and I had to start over. After about the 3rd try, the message I was getting for my file history changed to "Could not reassociate with file history data: The
system cannot find the path specified.
" I then renamed the file history and it now works again!!

  4. Could Not reassociate with File History data The system cannot find the path specified

Could not reassociate with File History data - The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

    Hello,

I am having problems changing File History drives so that I can recover data from a PC that has failed. In order to access the File History of the failed PC I follow these steps:

    1) File History settings -> Set up File History -> Turn off

    2) File History settings -> Set up File History -> Select Drive

    3) File History settings -> Select a File History drive -> Choose drive and then the existing backup, click OK

    4) Do you want to use this drive for File History again? -> Click Yes

Error dialog "Could not reassociate with File History data - The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."

I have verified that no other processes are accessing the drive in question using Process Explorer from www.sysinternals.com. Rebooting the machine makes no difference.

    Any ideas?
