Folder locations between ssd and hdd

So i have a dillema. I thought i had all my problems figured out with my laptop storage locations between a ssd and hhd when i got it. I took the easy route and went under settings, system, storage, then clicked where new content is saved and changed all of it to drive D. All my folder locations now said they were under D:\Dale Shaw. It was a long time ago when I did that but im pretty sure thats how it all went. So fast forward almost a year. For some reason my music folder is being weird and saving music to drive C instead of d. It said it's location was under c:\users\Dale Shaw\Music. So I went to its its properties, went under location and clicked move. I moved it to D:\Dale Shaw because on the general tab of the other folders like download it said that D:\Dale Shaw is the location, but under the location tab is says D:\Dale Shaw\Downloads. So i set my music folders location strait to D:\Dale Shaw and it replaced my Dale Shaw folder with the music folder and when I click on it all my other folders like downloads and pictures are in it, but its mixed with my music. How should i go about untangling this mess? I don't have any system restore points sadly either.

    :)

Vista Ultimate - 'User' Folder Location

    No tried that.

Can copy the entire folder to D; but Windows still points to C as the location. Can change personal folders location to a folder on D;, but this still leaves hidden files etc on C;. Thus meaning there are 2 Users folders. Have managed to change the Public folder location to D;, with some registry tweaks, but this doesnt seem to work for the entire folder.

    any more suggestions

  3. SSD / HDD Setup

It's pretty simple to redirect the default folder location of Pics, Docs, Music, etc.
MS has a support page for it here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/redirect-a-folder-to-a-new-location

I went one step further with my SSD/HDD setup and made a 30GB partition just for the OS on the SSD. Then I install any programs that can be given an alternative path to the secondary partition, as well as the page file. 35GB might be a bit more appropriate for updates well into the future and/or in case he forgets to put some progs on the secondary partition, but so far 30GB has been plenty space for me. You can change the default install path as well, but I wouldn't recommend that as he'll probably want to install some things on the SSD, and some on the HDD, so it's better to do it piecemeal.

Relocation of User Profile Folders from SSD to HDD

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Most of the manufacturers install Windows Operating system on the SSD rather than HDD. As it provides boost in performance and get fast boot for the Operating system.

Hence, the preferable drive for Windows OS to save its files would be SSD. That is reason personal files and User profile folders are saved in SSD. The user profile folder gets created where the Windows OS is installed.

You can try to change the saved location for the applications at the time of installation. However, for the relocation of User profile folders from SSD to HDD is not possible. This might cause few error which may crash Windows.

You can install/save all the third party applications on HDD by changing its saved location at the time of installation. In that way, only Operating files and system files will be present in SSD and the rest you can move to HDD.

    Hope it helps.
