Windows 10: Update to Windows 10 1903 Stuck at 88% for 3 hours

Again I have a machine that is stuck updating Windows. Stuck in a cul-de-sac. Going round and round.


I know that it is hopeless to learn anything new from responses to this post. This is just one frustrated Windows user / admin. I am baffled by the inability to provide the user insight into the hopeless despair of that endless circle.


Tonight I have read through some of the many reports over the years of Windows updates getting stuck. I have experienced other versions of Windows (7, 8, 8.1, 10...) circling the black hole. I remember writing a similar feedback for Window 7. Ah, maybe Artificial Intelligence will provide a solution. Microsoft intelligence has not yet.


Is it so hard to write elegant update software that provides the user with some kind of insight into the actual real-time state of the update? Hard to write software that determines its stuck. Back in the day we would write software that would try three times and provide an error message. Have to say our messages were not much more enlightening than the hex gibberish of Windows. The punch line was usually "see your system programmer".


The joke is that this machine is a Microsoft Surface so can't even blame a third party.


I'm going to leave this update running over night. So good night and I expect I will wake in the morning to find a spinner at 88.

Windows update, 1903

• my update 1903 has been stuck at 99% for 4 hours now. It say downloading. Yet nothing is. Has CPU maxed. Please advise

 

Windows Update Stuck on 88%

Windows Update has been Stuck on 88% since 20/10/2015 the update it is trying to install is Advanced micro devices, Inc driver update for AMD Radeon (TM) R3 Graphics. How do I sort this problem please.

Is it also stuck at 88?

I restarted one time (actually restart, not just shut down and reboot) and it started from 0% again. After about half an hour it reached 88% and after an hour it was at 89%. After a whole night it continued to 100%. But I still couldn't update it. It said I
had to restart it, but after restarting it started downloading again.

I then restarted one more time and didn't touch the Update menu at all. After 2 days I had the update.
