Windows 10: Can't delete files from SD card with Windows 10

A SD card reader that plugs into a USB port solved the problem for me (and I would guess my SD card readers is maybe 10 yrs old). (Incidentally, the delete function has always worked on my USB thumb drives-only issue seems to be SD cards.)


Why can't the Microsoft commentator in the old threads on this subject (going back several years) eliminate all the unsuccessful trial and error trouble shooting suggestions and print put the answer right up front with the question? Why do we have to wade through all the 'flotsam/jetsam' to get to the answer?


And why is Microsoft allowed to leave this issue unfixed. It is obviously simple to do if a 10 yr old card reader plugged into a USB port fixes it.

Can't delete files from sd card.

1: What is the exact error code/error message you have received when you try to delete/format the files?



2: Is that happening with all the files or with any specific file?



3: Which Operating System are you using?



If you are trying to format the SD card, you may try the following steps.



Please backup your files before proceeding with this step. This will delete all the files saved in the SD Card





Step 1:

Insert the microSD card into your computer card reader. If you do not have a card reader, use a USB card reader to add this capability. If your card reader does not accept microSD cards, insert the card into an SD card adapter
to convert it to standard SD card size. When doing so, make sure the adapter's lock slider is in the unlocked position.





Step 2:

Click the "Start" button, right-click "Computer" and select "Manage" to open the Computer Management dialog box.



Step 3:

Click "Disk Management" from the left panel.



Step 4:

Right-click the microSD card from the list of storage devices and select "Format."



Step 5:

Click the "File System" drop-down menu and select the file system you wish to use. If the card will be used in personal electronic devices, choose "FAT32" or "FAT." If the card will only be used on your computer, choose "NTFS."



Step 6:

Click "OK" to format the microSD card.





Reply with the required information if the issue is not resolved with the above mentioned steps.

SD CARD

All appps are installed in phone memory. There is no way around this. You can install a game FROM the SD card but it is then installed in the device's main memory.



STEP 1: Copy all the .xap files which you want to install in your Windows 8 phone to your SD card.

STEP 2: Now go to Start -> Store -> SD card and wait for few minutes for all the .xap files to be loaded.

STEP 3: Select the app which you want to install -> Select Install option.

STEP 4: If your apps are compatible then you can see them in the Compatible apps list if not it will be shown in the Incompatible apps list.

STEP 5: Once you have successfully installed the apps, you can see those apps listed in the Apps list from start.

Open File Explorer > open SD Card for list of files on it > right click on ones you want to delete > select Delete.
