Windows 10: OS Build 18362.239 conflict with Microsoft Store / XBox (Beta) App

I have OS Build 18362.175 installed and games from the Microsoft Store and the XBox (Beta) app install and play no problem.

On two separate occasions now, the OS Build 18362.239 has been installed via Windows Update and stopped either platform from downloading or installing any game. Indeed on the first of these occasions it prevented me from even playing a game (Vampyr), which I had already previously installed and was playing without issue prior to the 239 update. Upon uninstalling this update (KB4507453) the game installed and played again without problem.


On the second attempt, earlier today, I was trying to install Hollow Knight, but nothing was happening. Tried it from the Microsoft Store, same problem. Uninstalled KB4507453 and it downloaded without problem.


Note that this update caused no problems for any other game launcher (Steam, GoG, etc') that I tried, just Microsoft's own one. That looks pretty bad.

I presume at some stage this update is going to be forced upon me, so I'd rather have a fix in hand before I end up being unable to play the games I've paid for.

What information is required to work out where the conflict lies? Or should I get in touch with Microsoft support directly?

Xbox App and Xbox App (Beta) keep crashing on Windows 10

There are several reasons why the Xbox App (Beta) keeps on crashing. It is possible that the app is not updated or there is a software conflict with the other apps installed on your PC. To resolve your concern, We suggest that you perform the following solutions
on your PC:

Solution 1. Run the Windows Apps troubleshooter by clicking the
Run troubleshooter button on this link to fix problems with apps
from Microsoft Store.

Solution 2. Reset the Windows Store to clear the Store cache.

• Press Windows key + X on your keyboard.
  
• Click on Command prompt (Admin).
  
• Type wsreset.exe, and then hit Enter.
  

Solution 3. Uninstall and reinstall the Xbox App to update it.

• Click Start, and then type Windows PowerShell in the search box.
  
• Right-click, and then select Run as administrator.
  
• Type the following command to uninstall Xbox app: Get-AppxPackage *xboxapp* | Remove-AppxPackage
  
• Hit Enter.
• Launch Windows Store and download the
  Xbox App (Beta).
