  1. Requiring Administrator Login

    Hi Everyone, two questions:

I'm looking to setup better security on my PC, as I use this for work. I have other Users on my PC as well, but am trying to limit their access when logged in without me. I would like anything that normally requires an administrator login to require my login every time, rather than just once.

For example, under one of the standard users, trying to access folders from another user prompts this message:

    Requiring Administrator Login 5a119bf5-6dd2-43ad-8426-30de2610ce9b?upload=true.jpg

However, it only requires it once. Is there any way to set up the accounts so it will require my override on these types of actions(file access, downloads, etc? I have checked under UAC settings and set it to notify me always, but that has not changed anything.

Second question; Is there a way to use my password to override my other users' logins so I don't need their pass codes? Without having to change their password or delete the account?

    Thanks guys!

    :)

  2. Becoming the administrator on my own computer

    Hi Joan,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. Appreciate your interest in using Windows 10.

I suggest you to enable the built-in Administrator account by following the steps below:

    • Right click in the Start icon and select Command Prompt (Admin).
    • Type the below command:
    Net user administrator active:yes

    3. Restart the computer and login to the built-in Administrator account.

    4. Delete the account which is not required and make the required account as Administrator.

    5. Sign-out from the built-in administrator account and login to the other account which is made as the Administrator and check for status.

After creating a new Administrator account, disable the built-in Administrator account by following the steps below:

    • Right click in the Start icon and select Command Prompt (Admin).
    • Type the below command:
    Net user administrator active:no

Hope the information is helpful. Feel free to write to us for any other assistance with Windows, we’ll be glad to assist you.

    Requiring Administrator Login

    Administrator required

    Hi Logan,

Your concern about the credentials prompt can be due to the type of account that you're using on your device. To better understand your concern, we'd like to know the following:

    • If you're using a home computer or a device that is managed by a domain/organization.
    • If you're logged in using an administrator account on your device. To check this, you can perform the following:
      • Click on the Start button, the Start Menu will pop up.
      • Right-click the name (or icon, depending on the version Windows 10) of the current account, located at the top left part of the Start Menu, then click on Change account settings.
      • The Settings window will pop up and under the name of the account if you see the word "Administrator" then it is an Administrator account.
    • The version and build of Windows 10 that you're using on your device. To check this, you can perform the steps posted on this

      link
      .

Also, we'd like to request for a screenshot of the prompt that you've received.

If you're using a home computer and is logged in using an administrator account, we'd recommend using your login credentials on the prompt.

We look forward to your response.
