Windows 10: Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=0017) on Windows 10 Pro (64 bit) Lenovo X1 Carbon

Hi,


Am not able to use fingerprint scanner to sign-in to my laptop. After researching on various support groups, discussions and forums have tried to update the driver but says 'The best drivers for your device are already installed'.

Under Device Manager, under 'Biometric Devices', there is a exclamation mark in 'yellow'. Right clicked on 'Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=0017)' > Properties, gives below details:

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful.

Have reached a dead end :-(

Let's try to isolate the issue. Since you recently updated your Windows 10 version, have you tried updating the driver for your FP Sensors?

windows 10 doesn't recognized internal fingerprint reader

I also did have the same issue, just fixed it by following the below steps :

HP Drivers does not work. Hence tried a different driver to fix the issue.

1.> Download and install the driver from (Lenovo Drivers from Google Drive)

After installing check Windows Hello if you can see the Fingerprint option. If yes then your issue is resolved , if you don't see Fingerprint option follow the steps below.

• Open Device Manager, click the Start button, type mmc devmgmt.msc in the
  Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
• 
  If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click
  Continue.
  
  Device Manager starts and displays a tree representing all of the devices detected on your computer. At the top of the tree is a node with your computer's name next to it. Lower nodes represent the various categories of hardware into which your computer's
  devices are grouped.
  
• 
  Double-click Biometric devices to open the list.
  
• 
  Right Click on the device Synaptics FP Sensors
  and then click Properties. The Device Properties dialog box appears.
  
• 
  Go to the second tab called “driver” and choose the “update driver” button
  
• 
  Choose the “Browse my computer for driver software”
  
• 
  Choose “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer”
  
• 
  Under Manufacturer select Synaptics FP Sensors
  
• 
  Under Model select Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=0011) or (PID=0015) or
  (PID=0017) and click next and finish
  

For me the PID=0017 worked.

Lenovo ThinkPad Synaptics fingerprint sensor killed by Windows 10 Update

Hardware: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 2

OS: Windows 10 Pro / Version 1803 / OS build 17134.137

Biometrics device: Fingerprint sensor Synaptics WBD(SGX enabled)

After a usual Windows 10 update the driver for the fingerprint sensor does not work anymore.

Fingerprint sensor cannot be used.

Trouble shooting already done:

- refreshed driver in the device manager

- uninstalled and reinstalled driver for fingerprint sensor

Problem still unresolved. Please help.
