Windows 10: Cannot login after Windows 10 update, black screen, spinning dots

Hi Everybody,


I got a doozy of a problem...


tldr; recent update screwed the pooch. Only get black screen or black screen with spinning dots or screen with a flashing __ or sometimes a Y __. Currently unable to actually log into my computer to update or fix anything there. Safe mode start ups have failed. No mouse control. Keyboard still gets some responses. Restarts have failed. Attempts to revert to prior save point (recovery point??) have failed. Enemy closing in. Hope is failing.



Long version:

First off, it is an older computer 6-8 years?), a Dell xp5 that didn't come with WIndows 10 but I upgraded to 10 for free. Intel. New power source. Nvidia video card.

Last week I downloaded some udpate and then clicked on something that would upgrade the version? or something? It just looked like "hey, this is a bigger update than normal so prepare for this to take a while"


Anyway, downloaded all things and it said it needed to restart, but I was tired and wanted to sleep so I figured I would do the restart later, and just shutdown the desktop PC.


Next day I start my computer and soon after the initial Dell logo opening screen, it went to a black, blank screen. At first, it would have just a blinking '__' in the upper left corner, or it would have a 'y' with a blinking ' __ ' next to it. unable to move forward, no chance to log in to the actual computer.


To date, i have tried unplugging all the USB stuff and restarting: no luck.

I have tried the 'shut down pc 3 times to open recovery screen' which is about the only thing I can actually interact with on my PC. Sadly, NONE of the options have worked. Repair comes back failed, reverting to a previous save point (i forget the tech name) the only things I havent tried are factor reset.


I just tried to enter Safe mode with zero things plugged into the pc Tower, other than my computer screen. It is currently a black screen and has been stuck on it for 5 minutes.


Now it is asking for a password to do any recovery or repair options and I have no clue what password it is asking for or which one to use. Since I am unable to actually log into my PC I have no way of finding out or changing said password.


Oh, I also left the computer on last night as some other solutions were to give it time to finish the update, and well, no luck there.


Help me Microsoft Answers, you're my only hope.

Windows 10 Black Spinning Circle with Cursor Pointer Before Login screen

I am in Windows 10 14393.2046 Build and during Boot I am Experiencing Black screen with a cursor and spinning circle ,having updated my Graphics Card Drivers Up to Date and Windows 10 1607 Cumulative Updates too.Since i didnt have any startup issues in
Windows 8.1 ,10240 as well as 10586 builds and i performed all troubleshooting steps and annoyed me.I can say that it is a windows issue and you have to sort it out ,only problem is

• Windows Logo Spinning Circle
• Black Screen spinning Circle
• Login

2. Are the PC’s connected to domain network?
   

I suggest you to refer the article Troubleshoot
black screen or blank screen errors, refer the section
I see a black or colored screen with spinning dots after restarting my device.



However, if the PC’s are connected to domain network, I suggest you to post your query on

Windows 10 black screen spinning dots

I left my computer on overnight and apparently it did an update. I don't think it was the anniversary update, but I don't know for sure.

It's sitting with a black screen with the spinning dots. It doesn't respond to shift-ctl-del

I've tried rebooting (after holding the button down for 10 seconds) several times

and have tried to get into recovery mode by holding either F8, or Shift F8, or F4.

Each time I get the windows logo briefly (with spinning dots) and then it goes back to the empty black screen with spinning dots.

I don't have a recovery usb or media to boot from.

Any ideas?
