Windows 10: Godmode problem: the folder is set up correctly, but folder name is blank - Workaround

In the post Godmode problem: the folder is set up correctly, but folder name is blank, Donald_S_Morrison reports a problem with the handling of the prefix on a folder named like AdminAll.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}.


In older versions of Windows 10 such a folder would display in File Explorer as AdminAll. That is, Explorer would display the portion of the folder name before the period (.).

In newer versions of Win10, and still in 1903, Explorer displays nothing for the folder name. It is shown as completely blank. This makes it impractical to create a link to the folder or to do many other things with it, such as pin it to the start menu.


A workaround to this defect is to place the GUID folder somewhere out of the way, in a sub folder of the desktop, for example, and, in the same place, create a junction to the folder. Then create a shortcut to the junction and place wherever desired.


Note that the link must be a junction, not a directory link, for the work around to operate as expected. That is, when creating the link with mklink, use the /J switch.


Here is an extract of a directory listing showing a possible configuration:

In this setup, the Junction AdminAll, which points to C:\Users\<userid>\Desktop\Shortcuts\AdminAll.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}, can be used as the target of a Shortcut on the desktop or anywhere else. You will have to manually set an appropriate icon for the shortcut because the junction does not carry the GUID folder icon.








This allows use of the "God Mode" folder in any context where a Shortcut works.


The folder AdminAll.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} is still displayed incorrectly by File Explorer, but it is in an out of the way place.


The only purpose of this post is to provide this workaround. I do not need any reply.

I created a folder on my Desktop, and renamed it to GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

The folder appearance changed to look like the Contol Panel, and it contains all the settings that it's supposed to.

So far so good.

Except on my Desktop, this new Folder's name is blank. And I can't figure out how to give it a visible name.

Any ideas???

How to Activate GodMode in Windows 7

Step 1: Right click on Desktop

Step 2: Click create folder.

Step 3: Name your sparkly, new folder GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} and press enter.

Step 4: Blink as the folder changes form to look like the control panel Icon

This appears to have been broken with one of the late April 2017 Win10 updates. GodMode no longer accepts an argument before the dot to give it a file name. Functionality remains unchanged, but you can no longer (re)name the file. This applied to both
existing GodMode shortcuts as well as those created after the update. Annoying.
