Windows 10: IM keeps popping up say I have a "Microsoft Account Problem"

Hello Microsoft Community

Last month I signed into my Outlook email. In it there was an email about security and how you could see who is logging into your email and I decided to go there. I first signed into "My Account" website and saw the link to the security website. I of course had to sign in both times with my Outlook / Hotmail email and password. I checked out both sites and updated some info and then logged out. I think one of the sites required me to change my PW so I did. It was time for me to do that anyway.

The very next day when I started up my PC I got an Instant Message (right lower corner just about the clock) that said:



“Microsoft Account Problem

We need to fix your Microsoft account

(most likely your password changed)

Select here to fix it in Shared experiences

settings.”



I clicked on it and it wanted me to sign in again. I didn’t want to do that. I didn’t want the

problem to get worse.



I set up my PC as a Local account when I first got it. I Never signed in with Microsoft identification. This happened last month and since that time I signed into the Microsoft Store without a problem. Yet this IM keeps popping up at all times. Kind of getting annoying.

I attached a screen shot from “settings / Accounts / Your Info” It shows that I have a Local Account.

Yet the IM keeps popping up so I know that somewhere buried in Windows 10 there is some setting that shows my email account and it’s just keeps asking for my PW for some nefarious reason that will haunt me for years.



I would like to know of any and all locations in Windows 10 that may have my Microsoft email address so that I may remove that information from my PC.



Btw, my email works fine and like I said, I can get into the Microsoft Store and I can log into my account page and the security page.



I haven’t gotten an email from my Microsoft email provider about this issue. Only my PC had taken offense. So that is why I went into the “Windows” Category.

Cannot link/add my Microsoft Account to Local Account


Hello Ken,

Im using Win10 Build 1607 with all latest update.

I also run all related troubleshooters:

• Windows Update
• Store Apps (says i have to login in my microsoft account but thats the problem, i can't)
• Microsoft Accounts

No Problem found. Also the suggestions from Microsoft didnt helped.

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

Convert Microsoft Account to Local account and restart the system and again try to convert Local account to Microsoft account and check if it helps.

• 
  Go to All settings.
  
• 
  Select Accounts.
  
• 
  Sign in with Local account instead and follow the on screen instructions.
  
• 
  And again change it Microsoft account.

• When did the problem start?
• If you can't sign in to your Microsoft account, we suggest that you re-enter the password. Go to
  Settings > Email+accounts > tap your Microsoft account > re-enter your password > tap the
  Done icon.
