  1. Volume doesn't adjust and only goes from max to mute with no in between

I recently just got a brand new pc running windows 10 and wanted to ensure that the audio was working fine so I play something random and the volume begins blasting out of my headphones that I had plugged in. I try to adjust the volume on my keyboard and the volume slider on the taskbar but that does absolutely nothing. The only thing that I found changes the volume is by going into the volume mixer and changing it from there but that's a very tedious task that I would prefer to not have to do whenever I want to change my volume. My previous pc never had this issue so I don't exactly know how to go about combating this one, I've already tried updating and reinstalling my audio drivers and that didn't do anything.

    Any help is appreciated.

    :)

  2. Volume Mute Light won´t change color

Before I follow your suggestions, a quick update: as the updating didn´t seem to work I stopped trying and just left it alone for awhile. About a half hour later I looked over and saw that the mute light was now blue. I tried the button but it and the volume buttons did not work at all. On the screen I was told that I needed to reboot, which I did and now the system has returned back to the way it was before: everything works except that the mute light does not change to blue as it should when the speakers are not muted. WTF?

Volume goes to zero and mute.

    Hi William,

If the volume of your computer automatically mutes, it could be that the audio drivers are corrupted or damaged, or that there are software conflicts occurring within the system. As a first troubleshooting step, we suggest that you run the audio troubleshooter
and lets Windows find and automatically resolve problems with your audio. Here's how to run the audio troubleshooter:

    • Select the Start button, then type troubleshoot, and select
Troubleshoot from the list of results. From there, select
      Playing Audio
      > Run the troubleshooter.

If the troubleshooter does not help resolve the problem with your volume settings, we suggest that you check Device Manager and update your sound card drivers. Updating would replace any corrupted or damaged components of the audio driver. Here's how to
update your audio drivers through Device Manager:

    • Open the Start button, then type device manager, and select
Device Manager from the search results.
    • Under Sound, video and game controllers, right-click your sound card driver, then select
      Update Driver.
    • Select Search automatically search for updated driver software.
If Windows doesn't find a new driver, you may look for one on the device manufacturer's website and follow their instructions on how to install their driver.

If the above steps doesn't resolve the problem, feel free to post back to us.
