SSD hardware transfer from one machine to another.

I tried the other day to ask how to upgrade a drive in a HP Notebook 14. That is still a work in progress...
But thank you to the people who answered that question. I'm awaiting a larger OEM drive to arrive in the mail.

    Here is this problem:
I have three HP branded machines. The one I have been using for music production, and mostly as my general purpose 'daily driver' machine. The body of the PC in question is just pretty much worn out. The body is cracked and broken in a couple of places. I would like to keep my SSD intact, and the Windows PID is a digitally signed Partner Program upgrade from Windows 7 for Partners as well.

I have two comparable laptops, but one is an Intel based machine, and my "daily driver" is an AMD based machine. I use both for recording and processing audio, and checking email. The daily driver has a broken lid hinge, a couple of keys held in place by superglue, and has developed a crack over the cooling fan on the exterior body. I have done some research, and I guess an SSD swap between two machines that are basically the same is a fairly simple thing.

I'd like to take the current SSD from my AMD machine and drop it into a Intel based system with basically the same specifications.
I have made backups of both computers just in case there are technical issues.

I have a few programs that are on a Windows 7 partition as well. The reason for that is the company who made my CD/DVD duplicator has actually gone out of business, and my older Canon Photo printer has the same issues. All of the equipment has been well taken care of, but the main machine (daily driver) is in the process of basically actually falling apart. Considering I've been using it since late 2012 or early 2013 it's time to retire it. It still out preforms most of the "off the shelf" OEM machines of many of my friends.

Can this actually be done without having to do a clean install? - Ozz

    :)

Is the free upgarde transferable? I think not.

    Hi Kari,
Can you confirm that the computer at step 5 (I numbered your list *Wink ) had never had an activated Insider build (especially not 10240)?

I'm wondering if it was possible that the second machine activated because the activation servers recognised the hardware from an earlier activation, and not because of the method you used to transfer?

Windows 10 SSD Boot and Sleep faliure

Windows cannot stop the BIOS recognising the SSD. If at any time you can go into the BIOS and the SSD is not listed then you have an (intermittent) hardware fault. It does not matter what the precursor steps are if the hardware was OK it must be listed

Step 6 is categorical, you have a hardware fault. BIOS device recognition is always before drivers load so they cannot affect the process

Transfer OS from 512 to 1tb SSD

I'm in the process of building a new rig. I would like to transfer the OS from my current 512 SSD to a 1tb SSD. My Os is already linked to my MS account and I printed out the steps about using the troubleshooter after a significant hardware change. The Question is: Can I clone the 512 to the 1tb or does it require a clean install? OS is Win 10 Pro.
