    Device manager/Windows Update

Ive recently noticed a problem with my computer and being unable to update via windows update (getting error 0x80080005) and i searched everywhere to see how to fix this. I even called Microsoft so they could try to help me but they also couldn't figure it out. My computer is built of parts i added over the years so it could have been a hardware problem. And it was. I bought a new USB PCIe card to add more ports to my computer (https://www.siig.com/products/it-products/usb/adapters/pci/hi-speed-usb-5-port-pci.html This one to be exact) because my original USB ports went out. I have an Asrockz77 pro4 motherboard. I found out that when i go to device manager there are three devices with an error on them "Unknown USB device (device descriptor request failed)" When i open the services application i noticed Windows Updater was stuck on "starting". The only way to fix this was to uninstall the device in device manager that came with the extra card i purchased (which automatically made the error device vanish without me touching them) then hit scan for hardware changes. When it finally recognized my USB devices windows update was finally able to go from "starting" to "running" and everything goes back to normal. My question is, is there a way to get around the windows update waiting to get a device description or is it time for a new upgrade entirely? Since you mentioned that the said driver is missing in Device Manager, what we suggest is for you to check in the Hidden Devices section on Device Manager. Kindly follow the steps below:

    • On the desktop, press Windows key + X and select
      Device Manager.
    • Click on View and select
      Show Hidden Devices.
    • Check for the webcam under Imaging Devices.
    • If the webcam is listed, then right-click on it and select
      Update Driver Software
    • Select Browse My Computer for Driver Software and follow the prompted steps.
Please post back with the result for further assistance

  4. Device manager/Windows Update

    Vista Pre-SP1 vs. Vista SP1

I've been Windows Updating for two straight days and I finally saw SP1. If you want to troubleshoot it, follow these steps:

    • Show hidden updates
    • Manually install any failed updates (google the KB_____ and install from the windows site)
    • Make sure everything in Device Manager is good to go
I had to do step two for like 4 or 5 updates to be able to see SP1.

Any other benchmarks you guys want to see? I might try PCMark05 (I think it works on Vista).
