  1. Implementing a new CIFS server - Once CNAME of \\files\ is changed to the new server from...

    Hi all,

over the past weeks i have set up a new netapp which is running a CIFS server. All file shares have now been migrated to the new server and all GPO's for drive mappings have been changed to the new locations on the new server. Everyone can access the data with no issues on both windows7 and windows10.

There are a couple of shares that in order to work correctly need the cname of 'files' changing from the old server to the new but when i change this windows 10 users cannot log in to their systems.

There are no user profiles hosted on the CIFS server so changing the CNAME should not effect users logging in.

Any ideas on what could be causing the issues on windows 10 clients once the cname is changed? (windows10 users can access all shares on the new cifs server with no issues. It is only when i change the FQDN of the CNAME record for files that win10 users cannot log in but 7 still can.)

    Thanks

    Ash

    :)

Homegroup For Minecraft Servers Or What?

It looks as if the existing minecraft server will use the new system without modification - It needs to be able to access the computers on the network in a two way link, which is the standard for Workgroup and Homegroup

There is a complete step by step available, if you have any issues ...

It's not something I have any direct experience with but a quick read suggests to me that you will not need to do Much if any reconfiguration of the existing server
