  1. REFERENCE_BY_POINTER error on login prevents login

    Hi,

I have had this problem for just under a week. I have an HP Spectre x360 (---).

When I press the power button the laptop boots to the login screen. When I try to login I get a blue screen saying "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're collecting some error info and then we'll restart for you" with stop code reference_by_pointer. By "try to login" I mean I press space (or any other key) and then start typing my password. The error will occur if I do nothing, if I tough the screen. After three attempts to restart and the same error showing repair options are given: restart, reinstall windows, backup, UEFI BIOS changes, restore to previous image, repair. I do not have an image or backup and the BIOS options do not help, nor does the repair work in that it reports not able to fix.

Since I cannot actually login and try options already submitted by the community, I do not see viable options.

    :)

    login screens

goto CONTROL PANEL/ USER ACCOUNTS then you have to remove all the other accounts except for the one you logon with....then restart...it should bypass the login tho it will still show the screen for it...it will continue to load windows...good luck*Rockout :rockout:

edit:: it asks for a login when there are more then one accounts..or if you set a pw to your login name...

    Can't login to new computer w/Windows 10

    Hi,

    Thank you for your reply.

    • Are you able to login to Microsoft Account on Web?

    • Have you installed any language pack?
I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

Step 1: I suggest you to select the appropriate language in login screen at the bottom right corner and check if it helps.

Steps 2: Use On-screen keyboard in the login screen to login and check if it helps.

Hope this helps. If the issue remains unresolved, please get back to us and we would be happy to help.
