  1. mp4 files no longer play after Windows Update

My mp4 files (those created within the past 2 years only) will no longer play on my computer.

Actually if I upload them to the web, open with VLC, or open in Firefox they will play. If I attempt to open them with Movies & TV, Window's Media Player or Movie Maker, I receive the following message, "Can't Play. This file isn't playable. That might be because the file is unsupported, the file extension is incorrect, or the file is corrupt. 0xc00d36c4" The video files will also play on my phone, but not after being uploaded to my computer.

Oddly, the same thing is happening on my husband's computer. What's going on!? How do we fix it?

    :)

mp4 files no longer play after Windows Update

Media Player no longer plays Mp4's

My new Windows 10 computer won't play MP4 or WMV videos after last Windows update. Either it never stops loading or says "Can't play file".

I followed steps to 'troubleshoot' Windows Media Player and got a message (even when running as Admin) that settings may be incorrect, but reset of settings does not fix it. HELP!
