  1. Windows 10 desktop icons become huge tiles on boot

    Hi folks,

Running Windows 10 on a Dell laptop, we've recently experienced a strange problem. Normally, icon size is set at SMALL, and this laptop has perhaps 30 or more icons on the desktop.

On cold boot (power up) in the morning, for two mornings in a row, we've had the icons come up the same size but in a tile of desktop space that is about five times the space -- instead of being spaced a few pixels apart, they are inches apart. Rebooting (not fast rebooting) causes the proper icon behavior to come back, and it stays fine the rest of the day.

Dual monitors (laptop plus one extra) using a DisplayLink adapter -- which had not been behaving this way before.

"Allow themes to control icons" is off.

BTW, another Windows 10 Dell laptop in the house, same model DisplayLink adapter, running two external monitors, is not (cross my fingers) showing this problem.

    Ideas?

    Thanks.

    :)

Windows 10 desktop icons not in order

In ccleaner, did you uncheck cleaning the icon cache... have not used in a while; however, I think that is what the option is called.

Now, if you are setting the icons and they move after you have set the settings and not changed them... you may have the "Random Windows 10 Icon movement problem".
Some people have this and some don't.

Here is a thread on the problem at Windows10 forums: Windows 10: Folder View Settings and Desktop Icon Positions Not Saving

  3. Remove Linux Desktop Icons

I am not sure whether this will work (Ubuntu does not have icons like that on the desktop by default), but I suggest opening the trash bin and sweeping the icons into the window showing the trash bin.
