Windows 10: Pop-up alerts that my Windows 10 Pro O/S is expiring soon.

The Lenovo TinkPad laptop I've been using was acquired from my wife's former employer, which gave it to her because they considered it outdated. She feels they would have wiped it clean at that exchange and not left the O/S on it.

In any event, I have been receiving MANY pop-ups throughout the day for 4-5 days now, alerting me that my Windows 10 Pro is expiring soon and needs to be reactivated. Perhaps we got the software back (2016 0r 2017?) when Microsoft was offering Windows 10 for free? I do not have a product key or a license agreement and it appears the current Windows 10 O/S was installed under a license.

Is the solution a simple matter of purchasing the Windows 10 Pro software, getting and then entering the new product key? Also, will I have to do this again down the road? I.e., is a purchase of Windows 10 Pro for my one device a permanent fix, or will that also expire after some months or a year or two? Thanks anyone for helping.

• When did you start encountering this pop up?
• Any changes on your computer before you encounter the pop up?
• On the Activation page on Settings, does it tells you when will your license will expire?
• What is the version and build of your Windows 10? To know the version and build of your Windows 10, follow these steps:
  • Simultaneously press the Windows key and the letter R on your keyboard.
  • In the Run box, type winver.
  • In the About Windows window, you will see the OS build and the version under
    Microsoft Windows.

If possible, kindly send us a screenshot of the pop up that you're getting and also the Activation page on Settings. Please censor any private information that can be found on the Activation page before posting the screenshot here.
