    Windows 10 freezes up on Start up and shut down


    Earlier it was just freezing during shutdown/restart so I ignored it as I could just forcefully shutdown the PC using the power button. But now I can't even login, the moment it shows mouse pointer on screen after boot screen, keyboard, mouse everything just freezes up. No matter what I do I can't login.


    I however logged in in safe mode successfully and also shutdown/restart. I ran a startup repair in troubleshooting tools and it said it couldn't complete the fix and the log file is in System32/LogFiles/Srt/SrtTrail.txt


    I had already disabled each and every background software that starts on startup, only exception was greenshot (screenshot taker) and even after installing it everything was working fine so I don't think it could be the issue.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

    Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

    Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    Hard drive freezing

    He said it was freezing on windows install...not shutting down and restarting.
    A restart was the only way he could remove it from the frozen state.
    Why would that make it PSU/Heat related?
    Although a new PSU would probably be in order regardless of this.

    PSU/Heat problems would just shut the comp down correct?

    If its a freezing problem Id suggest that keakar is correct in saying drivers are the culprit. Though wouldnt that give a BSOD pointing to the driver that failed?

    Try eventvwr.msc in the Start>"run" window, click system and see if you see any errors occuring that could be the cause of the problem.
