Windows 10: Is it possible to add photos to an album, then delete them from collections?

I have hundreds of photos in Collections. I am organizing them into Albums. I need them to be removed from Collections after they are in an album because it's impossible to remember which photos I've moved and which ones I haven't yet moved to an album. Once they are in an album, I don't need them in both locations. Plus, I get tired of scrolling and scrolling past photos in collections that I've already moved to an album.

Is it possible to stop the Photos App in Windows 10 from creating albums/collections?

I have collections already in other directories and Adobe Lightroom.

I don't want another collection taking up room.

Hi Eloise, no, do not delete the photos from Collection.

Photos will only keep one version of the photo, it will not take up any extra space on your hard drive

Think of it this way, collections is the actual image files on your hard drive

You can add these images to many albums, all the Photos app does is add a reference to those images in the albums you see, it does not create extra images on your hard drive

If you delete the image from collections, it will not be available in albums, if you delete the image from an album, it only deletes the reference to the file in collections

 

how do i move photos from my collection to an existing album?

The requirement to select and move photos from Collections to
Album is currently not available on Photos app.

You will be able to create a new Album of photos but not add to an existing album from Photo app
Collections.

To create a new Album of the selected photos, follow the steps below:

• 
  Open Photos app and click on
  Albums from the left side panel of the window.
  
• 
  Click on New album i.e. + from the top right corner of the app window.
  
• 
  Select the pictures to add to the album and click on
  Done i.e. tick mark icon located at the top right corner of the app window.
  
• 
  Click on Save option located at the top right corner of the window and check if the album is added to
  Photo app.
