Windows 10: win10 backup failed

I have a picture error when I back up the win10 system.

Backup fails

Thanks for the quick reply.

I did Step 1 OK.

Doing Step 2: Volume Shadow Copy is already running, but I have no SPP Notification Service in the list of services!

I just tried to backup, and it failed again!

Back in August when the Backup failed, someone told me about STARTING VSS. I did that then, and it appears to be running since then. He did not say anything about SPP. I replied to him, but he disappeared!

Failed Win10 Backup (Win7)

Hi Billy,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:

• Windows Backup tries to back up files in the LocalLow, Contacts, and Searches folders.
  
• These folders are not present on your computer.

In order to prevent backup from failing, you can use one of the following methods to eliminate this error message during future backup operations:

Method 1:

Create the missing folder "C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\new", as listed in the error message.

Method 2:

Exclude the folders from the files to back up in the Backup settings, and then include those folders in their original location. To exclude the folders in the Additional Locations and to include those folders in the original location,
follow these steps:

• In Control Panel, open Backup and Restore.
• In the Backup section, click Change settings.
  
• In the Set up backup dialog box, click
  Next.
• In the What do you want to back up dialog box, click
  Let me choose, and then click Next.
  
• Expand Data Files, expand <var><your user name></var>Libraries, expand
  Additional Locations, and then click to clear the
  AppData folder, Contacts, and
  Searches check boxes.
• Expand Computer, expand the item for your system drive (for example, expand
  Local Disk (C), expand Users, expand <var><your user name></var>, and then click to select the
  AppData,Contacts, and
  Searches check boxes if they exist.
• Click Next, and then click Save settings and exit.
  
• In Backup and Restore, click Back up now to perform a new backup. The backup operation should complete without errors.

My backup stubbornly refuses to run. I can't run the initial backup, therefore the file history backups don't run either. This has been an ongoing problem for quite some time. Suggestions I've received have not worked so far. Following is the problem
and the failed resolution attempts:

• I get this message from the Event Log:

Unable to scan user libraries for changes and perform backup of modified files for configuration C:\Users\Papa\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\FileHistory\Configuration\Config

Event ID - 201

Level: Error

User - System

*** ---- There is no config file at this directory location. The contents of the location are:

catalog2

config1

config2

• In another thread from July, someone suggested checking a particular service (I forget the name just now) is running. It is.

• Two days ago a Microsoft employee suggested the following steps. These steps resulted in no change, still no backup:

Thank you for contacting Microsoft community.

I suggest you to follow the below steps to start and stop the services “Windows backup” and “volume shadow copy” and check if it helps.

• Press “Windows+R” and in the run command box type “services. MSc”.
• Search for the service “Windows Backup” double click on it and check whether the service is started or not, click on “OK” button. I suggest you to stop and start the service again.
• Once done again search for the service “Volume shadow copy” double click on it and check whether the service is started or not. I suggest you to stop and start the service again, click on “OK” button and
  check whether you can perform backup successfully.

• I performed these steps multiple times. The backup still crashes, with the same error message. In addition I collected the following error message, but only one time:

Unable to start a backup cycle for configuration C:\Users\Papa\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\FileHistory\Configuration\Config

Event ID: 200

• Can anyone help me with this stubborn problem?
