How to go back to previous Windows build after clean install

Yesterday, I updated to the latest version of Windows only to have various software no longer responding (most involving audio - I'm a podcaster).

When I attempted to go back to the previous version, it failed. When I tried to perform a recovery, it had been turned off since March 2018. When I tried to restore from my backups, it showed the last backup to an alternate internal drive was performed in July 2018. This left me with no option but to perform a clean install, which only left me with the latest version that still does not work.

Where can I download and install the previous version of Windows 10? I'm way behind schedule and cannot get any work done until I get this resolved.

    :)

  2. Clean Install Workaround for Vista

You may remember this news story on techPowerUp! a couple of days ago relating to the lack of clean installs when using the Upgrade Editions of Vista, which required an old OS to be installed. However, Paul Thurrott has managed to find a workaround for this issue, which ironically lets users do a clean install Vista without any previous version of Windows, albeit a little tedious. Here are the steps:
    • Boot from the Windows Vista Upgrade DVD as normal
    • When prompted for a product code, leave this blank
    • Select the version of Vista you have purchased and let Vista install
    • When you boot to your desktop for the first time, run the Vista setup from Windows
    • This time enter your product key
    • When asked whether you want to do an Upgrade of Custom install, select custom and choose a clean install
    • Windows will now install for a second time and you should be able to activate it
Remember, these steps are only advised for use in order to achieve a clean install of Vista, it is only legal to use the upgrade editions if you have previously purchased the appropriate version of Windows.

  4. How to go back to previous Windows build after clean install

    reverting to previous build/version

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I would appreciate if you could answer few questions to narrow down the issue.

    • When the computer did froze? Is it when you tried to roll back?
    • Did you receive any error message?
I suggest you to remove all the external devices plugged in to the computer and check if it helps to resolve the issue. If the issue persists, please restart the computer and check whether it rolled back or not. If it loads Windows 10,
I suggest you to download the latest ISO of Windows 10 and perform automatic repair.

    Download Windows 10

    Steps to perform repair:

    a) Insert the installation DVD or USB
and boot Windows 8 from it.

    b) In the ‘Windows setup’ page select the language to install’, ‘Time and currency format’ and the ‘keyboard or input method’ and click on ‘next’.

    c) Click on ‘Repair your computer’ and select ‘Troubleshoot’.

    d) Click on ‘Advanced options’ and select ‘Automatic Repair’ and select the operating system.

If you really would like to rollback, I suggest you to refer the below article on How to go back to the previous operating system (Windows 7/8.1) from Windows 10.

    to help.

    Thank you.
