    Windows 10 won't boot after a "failed" update.


    I have encountered several machines that simply stopped booting after an automatic update attempt. I spent 3 days trying to fix the first one and decided to do a clean install on the others. The problem seems to be related to hibernation during the update process - Linux could not change files (delete, write) in the partition because "it was flagged as in hibernation".


    First of all: don't worry, your personal files are there and you can retrieve them by booting a Live Linux USB stick - I recommend Xubuntu because it's light and looks like Windows ... www.xubuntu.org. If you have problems mounting the partition you'll find good answers in the Linux support forums.


    Now that you know your personal files are safe, the bad news: I haven't found a way to recover the disk. All the steps I find in the microsoft forums don't fix the problem and "clean install" is not a proper solution to such a simple problem - Microsoft should have a fix for this problem up and running. If someone managed to solve the problem without clean install, please post a reply - copy and paste from an answer that you have not tried will not help anyone.

    When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

    Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

    I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.

    Windows Updates failed to instal

    I just did step one and they have just all installed.... thank you so much.... it was quite frustrating having that update window pop up every 5 minutes and failing to instal every time

    Windows 10 won't boot after a "failed" update.

    My pc won´t boot Windows 10 from USB/DVD

    So I wanted to change from my Windows 10 x32 bits to 64x. I downloaded the Mediacreationtool and used it in both a USB and a DVD. Tried used the usb, the disk and both at the same time but they won´t boot.

    I have a P7H55-M motherboard, the BIOS is updated and configured to boot first DVD, second usb and third SATA.

    So if someone could help me it´d be great.
