Windows 10: What happens, when you highlight filename?

Hello everyone

I have my Windows in danish, so I hope, I use the correct terms and names.

When I do the following with an image-file:

1)

Right click – open with – Windows Picture app – right click on the motive – File information – out on the left, doube click on the file name so it gets highlighted, and then left click with the mouse outside of the window (no changes made to the filename). (Look below for my test)
2)

Right click on the file, press “change name / rename”, so the name get highlighted, and then left click with the mouse outside of the window (no changes made to the filename)

3)

Right click on the file, properties, click on the filename in the “properties” window, so the name get highlighted, and then left click with the mouse outside of the window (no changes made to the filename)


Is there only a process in memory?
Is there a writing to disk?


I have been using the process monitor, and have been watching the “Picture app” and the “Disk” tap. There is 0,1 MB/s for a couple of seconds, in the “Disk” tap, when I highlight the name in “Picture app”, then it goes to 0,0 MB/s.

Is this because, that the data is being read into memory?


When I highlight and click away, stays in 0,0 MB/s. Only when I make a change to the name and press enter, then it is 0,1 MB/s for a couple of seconds.
5)

I assume, that there is only being written to disk, when the filename is changed?


6)

Is there other apps or software, to monitor when something is being written to disk?

Searching for a string within a filename in File Explorer

I want to search a folder for filenames that contain the word "Committee". When in File Explorer, I type "Committee" into the Search field and hit enter. It finds (highlights in yellow) files that start with "Committee" but not the ones where "Committee"
is embedded in the file name. For example:

• "Committee-Mission-Roles-and-Responsibilities" = finds it and highlights "Committee" in yellow
• "19510701ListClubCommitteesReportDirectorsBW" = Lists this file but does not highlight "Committee" in yellow
• "20150526MinutesBoard" = Lists this file because the word "Committee" is in the text of the file.

Is there a way to do a search that lists only filenames that contain the word "Committee"? I don't want files listed if the word "Committee" is not part of the filename.

How can I make a list of filenames in File Explorer via command prompt?

These are the steps I take in:

1. open the folder that I want to print the filenames of
2. In the location bar, typed "cmd"
3. At the command prompt, I typed "dir > vjoy.txt

The command prompt read Access is denied.

 

Edge Search Does Not Permit Change of Region


I got these suggestions from the Microsoft Community forum.No. 1 worked for me:

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.
We have reproduce the issue here and we are able to access non-regional search for google using Microsoft Edge.
I would suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1:
Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

1. Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
2. Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
3. Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.

Step 2:
I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue occurs.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Choose Accounts and then select Family and other users.
3. Select add someone else on this PC.
4. Enter a user name and hit next.
5. Click on Finish.
6. Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.

Step 3:
It could also happen because of network issue. I suggest you to try with different network connection and check if it helps.
