  1. Some SSIDs no longer visible after Win 10 update

I have three systems a DKT 700 Tower, and Acer DX730 All in one, and a Fujitsu e-Series laptop, and a number of apple products which all use my Telstra NBN connection \ modem, all of my devices could successfully see and connect to my Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2, I also still have the older Telstra modem which has an issue where it randomly drops the connection to Telstra every couple of hours (but it still works fine in the meantime).

With the DKT 700 and Acer DX730 I upgraded Windows 10 to 1903 - [Version 10.0.18362.418], wireless was still working on these devices, but it could no longer see the SSID of the Telstra Smart Modem, it could see other SSIDs and connect to them.

My Fujitsu laptop was on 1903 - [Version 10.0.18362.476] this was able to see the SSIDs of my Telstra Smart Modem, and connect to them and successfully have connection to the internet as expected.

I unplugged my Telstra smart modem from the line in, and plugged it into the older Telstra modem, and was able to see its SSID on all my devices, and able to connected to the internet successfully through the old modem from all my devices.

Whilst connected to my old modem with a working internet, I initiated Windows update on my DX730 and DKT, this was successful in allowing update of these systems to 1909 - [Version 10.0.18363.476], plugged back into my Telstra Smart Modem, and the SSIDs for it were still not visible, putting in the details manually (in case it was working just not showing in the list), this was not successful, ran Ipconfig / release, reset the wireless from windows, removed the wireless drivers, uninstalled the software related to the wireless, cleared the registry of all entries related to the wireless, flushDNS, removed network configuration information, and rebooted the system, allowed windows to detect the wireless hardware and install with its defaults, again behaviour has not changed, still can seen a good selection of SSIDs, and connect and be successful with the old Telstra modem, but Telstra Smart Modem SSIDs still not visible or functional from these systems, but still visible and fully functional from my Win 10 Fujitsu Laptop and apple devices.

Updated Fujitsu laptop to same (latest) version that the DKT and Acer had been updated to 1909 - [Version 10.0.18363.476], this is still working fine and seeing my Telstra Smart Modem SSIDs and connect to them, and successfully use internet connectivity through the Telstra Smart Modem.

I suspect the issue may be, the wireless hardware used by my Acer and my DKT, is limited in some way at the HW level which once the Win 10 was upgraded and using a enhanced security, if the other wireless device 'Telstra Smart Modem' had that capability, these Wireless HW is not capableof communicating at this enhanced security level, hence is no longer available.

To test this, my DKT uses a USB Wireless dongle, so on my Fujitsu laptop disabled its inbuilt Wireless and attached the USB wireless dongle, and sure enough, I was able to see most SSIDs from the Fujitsu Laptop, but not the SSIDs of my Telstra Smart Modem, still don't know exactly what it is in the combination of these wireless hardware used by my DKT and Acer, in combination with Windows 10 1903 - [Version 10.0.18362.418] and higher, which prevents it from seeing or connecting to and using my Telstra Smart Modem, but still allowing it to see and connect to other wireless devices.

And more importantly is there any configuration on the modem itself, or windows 10 configuration on the wireless connection, (or both) which will again allow me to use the wireless connectivity to my Telstra Smart Modem, with these latest versions of Windows, I have no intention of going back to earlier versions of windows, and if worst comes to worst, I'll buy some new Wireless dongles, disable the inbuilt wireless in the Acer, and use these to connect to my Telstra Smart Modem, but I would prefer it if there is a fix with the current HW, or at least a technical reason for why no longer works.

I'm expecting many people must have been hit by this, and it would depend on a combination of the wireless devices they are communicating with and the specification of the Wireless HW on the windows 10 device which they are connecting to it with, hence why it still works and sees some SSIDs, but others are no longer available after the windows 10 updates.

Anyone else on this forum who have been hit by this, anyone know the technical details, and if there are any fixes without downgrading Win 10.

    :)

PCs no longer visible on Network after auto Windows Updates 10 Pro

I have 8 computers on a Network running MS Windows 10 Pro and all of them access a shared folder on a server computer. Now, 2 of the computers are no longer visible on the network after MS updated the computers during the night. The Windows Updates were:
    Update for Windows 10 V1607 KB3211320
Update for Adobe Flash Windows V10 1607
Feature Update for Windows 10 v1607

For example, using Windows File Explorer, I would click on "Network" and it would list all of the computers on our network. At that point I would click on the "Server" computer and a list of the folders that I have access to would be displayed. Now, the Server computer is no longer visible on the network using Windows File Explorer. I am confident that the culprit is Windows automatic update because this happened once before on another machine and the problem was resolved after I removed the MS updates.

Does can anyone suggest a solution to my problem which doesn't involve removing the updates? I am reluctant to remove the updates again because I know it is important to remain current and I am worried a subsequent update will cause a repeat of the problem. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

No Icons visible in task bar, Win 10

    Hi Richard,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community, we appreciate your interest in Windows 10.

As you are facing issues with icons in the Task bar after November update, do let us know the following:

    • Is this issue confined only with icons in the Task bar?
    • What happens when you try to click on those icons?
    • What exactly do you mean by: "they are there but not visible"?

Method 1: If you are referring to showing up of different icons in Task in System tray, I suggest you to try the below and check if it helps.

    • Press Windows key from the Keyboard, type
Turn system icons On or Off
      and select it.
    • Try to turn on the icons that are visible.

    Method 2:

Step 1: If not, I suggest you to place the computer in safe mode and check if the icons are visible to access.

Refer: Start your PC in safe mode in Windows 10

    If the issue still persists,

Step 2: This issue might have occurred due to corrupted or missing system files after the update. I suggest you to place the computer in normal mode and try to perform SFC scan.

Steps: Place the computer in normal mode.

    • Press Windows + R keys to open
      Run command.
    • Type msconfig and press
      Enter
      .
    • In the System Configuration
      window, click on General tab.
    • Select Start-up selection as Normal startup, click on Apply and Ok.
    • Follow onscreen instructions.

Perform SFC scan, System File Checkeris a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

    Follow the below steps:

    • Right click on the Start button, click on
      Command Prompt (Admin)
      .
    • Type “sfc /scannow” without the quotes and hit
      Enter
      .
    • After the scan, restart the computer and check for the issue.

Hope it helps. Reply to the post with an updated status of this issue with required information, we will be happy to help you.
