  1. Windows 10 sometimes does not resolve local host names

I have a local network with no domain controller, just windows 10 computers.

I frequently use ssh to connect to other computers. But even if I connect to HOSTB from HOSTA, I sometimes can not (and sometimes I can) do "ssh HOSTA" back to the host I am coming from.

Certainly, if the wireless part of the router has been off, it takes some time before all computers advertise their presence on the network.

But sometimes I have been connected for hours e.g. editing scripts, and still, I may not be able to connect back to the computer I am sitting at.

Is there any command-line command that will trigger announcements?

Perhaps if I have the computer disconnect from the network and connect again, it will announce itself and request other computers to do the same?

Googling, I learn that Windows Server has a utility "nbstat" that can show the name cache. But none of my computers has that command. Is it possible to install it? Or, is there an equivalent for Windows 10 Home editions?

    :)

  2. Full machine name in host file not resolving to local ip 127.0.0.1 in windows 10

In windows 7 machine, mapping the full machine name to local host ip 127.0.0.1 in host file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc) seems to be working fine.

Means after putting the below entry in host file, I ping with my full machine name and I'm getting reply from 127.0.0.1

    127.0.0.1 Test-L7.mydomain.com

However the same configuration is not working in window 10 machine, ping returns actual ip 10.16.xx.xxx. I disconnected my network and did the ping, this time it return 127.0.0.1.

How to resolve full machine name to local ip 127.0.0.1 ?

    Thanks

    Resolving Host - Chrome + Windows 10

    My experience :

Chrome + Windows 10 = endlessly resolving host.

Firefox + Windows 10 = zero resolving host issues.

I guess I wills stick with Firefox, but it would be nice to get Chrome working properly with W10. I have tried just about every suggestion that I have found on the web, but no luck. Anyone want to offer an idea.

    Thx.
